How In-Home and Telehealth Therapy Work

In-home therapy is a licensed therapist working in your own rooms, and telehealth is the same clinician over video. In-home visits let a licensed therapist work with your child in the exact environment where skills are used, from the kitchen table to the play area, while telehealth connects you with the same therapists online when that is more convenient. Both options make consistent, family-centered care easier to fit into real life.

The Benefits of Therapy at Home

Children often show their most natural skills at home, which helps therapy target what matters most. Parents and siblings can take part, strategies plug directly into daily routines, and there is no commute or waiting room. For many families in Westlake Village and nearby communities, that means less stress.

Is Telehealth Effective for Kids?

For many goals, it can be. ASHA, the national association for speech-language pathologists, states that “Telepractice is an appropriate model of service delivery for audiologists and SLPs,” and notes that many studies show telepractice and in-person services can be comparable. It tends to work well when a parent is nearby to help. Our therapists use engaging, interactive activities and coach you in real time, so you have tools to use between sessions. On the free call, we can talk through whether home visits or telehealth fit your child’s goals.

Bringing Skills Into Everyday Life

Because sessions happen where your child lives and plays, new skills are practiced in context: asking for a snack in the kitchen, getting dressed in the bedroom, or building hand strength during play. That real-world practice can help new skills carry over beyond the session.

Frequently asked questions

How much does it cost? Do you take insurance?

Coverage depends on your plan. You can use insurance through Village or pay privately with a superbill for possible out-of-network reimbursement. In Ventura County, children under 3 may qualify for no-cost Early Start services through Tri-Counties Regional Center. We’ll go over your options on the free 15-minute call.

What happens during the free consultation?

It’s a friendly 15-minute call. We listen to your concerns, answer questions about scheduling and funding, and recommend next steps. There is no pressure and no commitment.

Do I need to be in the room during sessions?

For younger children, yes. We coach you during the session so you can support your child between visits. For older children, it’s more flexible and based on what helps them most.

How long until we see progress?

Every child is different, so we don’t promise a timeline. We set clear goals with you, track progress, and share what we see along the way. We build every child’s plan and goals around one aim: graduating from speech or occupational therapy. That is our goal with every child.

What if my child has autism, is a late talker, or stutters?

We support all of these. Our therapists are experienced with autism, late talkers, articulation, stuttering, and sensory and motor needs, with individualized, play-based plans tailored to your child.

Are your therapists licensed and background-checked?

Yes. Every therapist is licensed in California and cleared through a Live Scan (DOJ and FBI) background check. Your child sees the same therapist at each session.

What’s the difference between in-home and telehealth?

In-home means a therapist comes to you and works within your child’s real routines. Telehealth is live video sessions with the same therapist, a good fit for busy weeks, sick days, or families a bit farther out.

Can we switch between in-home and telehealth?

Yes. You can switch between home visits and telehealth any time, based on what works for your family that week.

Which is better, in-home or telehealth?

It depends on your child and your schedule. On the free call, we’ll help you choose, and you can switch any time.

What do we need for telehealth?

A device with a camera and a reliable internet connection, plus a few common household items we will suggest ahead of time.

What areas do you serve?

We visit homes from Ventura to Santa Monica and Burbank, and offer telehealth anywhere in California. See every area we serve.

How do we start?

Childhood development: by the numbers

Developmental and communication differences are a common part of childhood. The U.S. Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) reports that about 1 in 6 children ages 3 to 17 (17%) has one or more developmental disabilities, and the CDC’s most recent ADDM Network data identify about 1 in 31 children aged 8 years (3.2%) with autism spectrum disorder. The National Institute on Deafness and Other Communication Disorders reports that approximately 1 in 14 children ages 3 to 17 (7.2%) has had a disorder related to voice, speech, or language in the past 12 months, that speech sound disorders affect 8 to 9% of young children, and that stuttering occurs most often in children between the ages of 2 and 6. Starting early gives a child more time to work on these skills while they are little.
