Maybe your child melts down at the grocery store, or covers their ears when the vacuum starts. Or maybe your pediatrician mentioned it at a checkup and suggested a closer look. Speech and occupational therapy in Chatsworth can start in your own home. A licensed therapist in speech-language pathology or occupational therapy visits Chatsworth kids from birth to 18 at home or school. Some families pick video instead. No diagnosis or referral is needed. You can call us as the very first step.

Do you make home visits to Chatsworth?

Yes. Chatsworth is part of our regular home-visit area. After you sign a consent form, your child's school, preschool, or daycare is an option too.

Chatsworth joined the City of Los Angeles in 1915 and has its own neighborhood council. City Planning groups it with Porter Ranch in one community plan area. That area also takes in Santa Susana Pass Historic Park and the Chatsworth Nature Preserve.

Next door, we also visit Porter Ranch, Northridge, and West Hills.

In Chatsworth, which school district and regional center apply?

LAUSD runs Chatsworth's public schools. North Los Angeles County Regional Center serves people across the San Fernando Valley. Its main office is right here in Chatsworth, on Oakdale Avenue.

    Elementary schools

Chatsworth Park Elementary on Devonshire Street and Germain Academy for Academic Achievement on Germain Street are two of the district's elementary schools here.

    Talking to LAUSD

LAUSD's Child Find page says a worry about a school-age child should go to the principal at the child's public school of residence. A Student Support and Progress Team may follow. For preschool-age children, from 2 years 10 months, the contact is LAUSD's Early Childhood Special Education office instead.

    Early Start and after

At the regional center, Early Start serves infants and toddlers up to 36 months, and anyone may refer a child. From age 3, the Lanterman Act governs services, with a different application.

Are there inclusive playgrounds and sensory-friendly places in Chatsworth?

Yes. Mason Recreation Center, on Mason Avenue, is one of the playgrounds the City of Los Angeles lists as universally accessible.

At the Chatsworth Branch Library on Devonshire Street, families can borrow sensory kits for use in the library. The Los Angeles Public Library says the kits are meant to help visitors with sensory processing needs. Chatsworth South Recreation Center, a little farther west on Devonshire, lists a preschool program.

How does speech and occupational therapy in Chatsworth start?

A free 15-minute phone consultation comes first, with a licensed therapist on the other end. If you both decide an evaluation makes sense, it is scheduled within 3 business days.

Chatsworth evaluations happen at home, at school, or over video. Our pages on what a speech evaluation covers and what an OT evaluation covers explain the process. You receive the written evaluation no more than 14 business days later, with a plan for therapy if it is recommended.

Can Chatsworth children get these services at home or at school?

All but one. Social skills groups are the exception, since they gather in Westlake Village.

That means sensory integration therapy, feeding therapy for mealtime struggles, and stuttering therapy for kids can all come to Chatsworth. Nita Anavim, M.S., CCC-SLP, heads our speech services, and Rachel Yashouafar, MA, OTR/L, heads occupational therapy; they founded the practice together. All of our services are listed together.

How do Chatsworth families pay for speech and OT?

That comes down to your plan. Insurance works through Village, our partner, for families with TRICARE or with a PPO plan from several major insurers. Village also charges a fee of its own at each visit.

Our regional center partner, Tri-Counties, covers Santa Barbara, San Luis Obispo, and Ventura counties, not Los Angeles County. That is true even though North Los Angeles County Regional Center has its main office in Chatsworth. So families here use Village or private pay, and private-pay families get a superbill to file for out-of-network benefits. Read about paying with Village insurance and other ways to pay.

What else do Chatsworth parents ask about?

Do we have to drive to your clinic from Chatsworth?

No drive is needed. We come to Chatsworth homes and schools, or meet by video. From December 1, 2026, our Westlake Village clinic, on Townsgate Road, is ready for anyone who wants it.

Will you see my child at Chatsworth Park, Germain, or another school?

Yes, once you have signed a written consent form and the school has agreed. Then we coordinate timing with the staff and make sure the room works for a session. Private schools, preschools, and daycares are welcome too.

Can you help a child who covers their ears or avoids messy play?

Yes. An occupational therapist works on reactions like covering ears or avoiding messy play through sensory therapy. It can also happen by telehealth, with a parent helping.

“Children develop at different rates, but they usually are able to do certain things at certain ages.”

    American Academy of Pediatrics, HealthyChildren.org

The milestones on CDC's milestone checklists are ones that 75 percent or more of children are expected to reach by a certain age. That is why a missed one is worth a conversation.

If everyday noise, textures, or routines seem to take more out of your child than they should, it's fair to ask why. We're here when you're ready to talk.
