Pediatric Speech Therapy and Occupational Therapy in Reseda, CA
Therapy Clubhouse provides in-home and telehealth pediatric speech therapy and occupational therapy to families in Reseda, for children from birth to 18. A licensed speech-language pathologist or occupational therapist comes to your home, and the first 15-minute consultation is free. Children under three may qualify for Early Start. Regional centers and public school districts coordinate it.
This page covers both disciplines. For detail on each, see pediatric speech therapy in Reseda and pediatric occupational therapy in Reseda. Evaluations are explained on two more pages: speech evaluation in Reseda and OT evaluation in Reseda.
Your child gets speech at school. Is that enough?
School speech therapy is built to support access to education, which is a narrower job than everyday communication. Reseda is part of LAUSD, so school-based therapy starts with the district: a child qualifies, an IEP is written, and services begin. Private therapy can work on the goals you set for home and everyday life, alongside what the school provides.
It is a fair question, and the honest answer is that it depends on what the goal is. School services exist to support access to education. That is their legal job. If your child's needs go past what the classroom requires, the district is not obligated to fill the rest. That gap is where private therapy can come in.
As of October 2026, there is no waiting list here for in-home or telehealth therapy
A first session can be as soon as 5 days after the free call. If your child has an IEP, you can ask about it on the free 15-minute consultation.
Who treats your child
Rachel is a licensed occupational therapist and a mother. She covers sensory processing, fine motor and handwriting, self-regulation, and daily routines at home.
How school services and private therapy actually differ
A child can be too mild for district services and still be struggling. Educational eligibility is a threshold, not a measure of whether therapy would help.
School speech can be delivered in small groups. That can work well for certain goals. Other goals, such as speech sound work, may need close listening and immediate correction.
Winter break, spring break, summer. Private therapy is not tied to the school calendar.
We come to your house in Reseda and work where a challenge shows up, such as at the table where handwriting feels hard or during a routine that is tough to get through.
How to ask LAUSD for an assessment, and how long it should take
If you think your child needs to be looked at and the school has not offered, you do not have to wait to be invited. You can ask. The timeline that follows is set by California law, not by the school's calendar.
Put the request in writing. An email to the principal or the school psychologist counts, and it starts the clock in a way that a conversation at pickup does not. Date it and keep a copy.
From there the district is on a schedule:
- It has 15 calendar days from your written request to give you an assessment plan.
- You get at least 15 calendar days to read that plan and decide whether to sign it.
- Once you sign, it has 60 calendar days to finish the assessments and hold the IEP meeting.
School breaks longer than five school days pause that clock, and this part is easy to miss. A request made in late May does not produce an IEP in June. If your referral lands within 30 days of the end of the school year, the IEP can instead be developed within 30 days after the next year starts. Asking in September and asking in May can be two very different decisions.
A school assessment is built to answer one question: does this child need support to access their education? That is a narrower question than the one you may be asking, which is closer to "what is going on with my kid, and what would help?"
A private evaluation can look at the whole picture, including things the school has no reason to assess because they do not affect classroom access. It also belongs to you rather than to the district. You can bring it to the IEP team, and if it meets the district's criteria for evaluations the team is required to consider it in decisions about your child's education. Required to consider is not the same as required to agree, and it is worth going in knowing the difference.
None of this stops you from starting privately while the district timeline runs. The two tracks are independent, so a family can start private work first.
If your child is under three, this is a different door
Before age three, the route is Early Start. Reseda is served by North Los Angeles County Regional Center. Regional centers and public school districts coordinate Early Start. It is free to be assessed and you do not need a doctor's referral. If you are not certain which center covers your address, the state's regional center lookup will tell you. You are also welcome to call us with questions.
Fees and what we do not do
We are a private practice. We do not bill your school district, and we are not a replacement for the services on your IEP. The two can work side by side. See payment and insurance options for how this works.
Reseda questions
You can bring your questions about the IEP to the free 15-minute consultation.
Private therapy does not, on its own, change a child's eligibility for district services.
No. Not qualifying for district services means your child did not meet an educational threshold. It does not tell you whether your child could benefit from more support.
Yes. We visit homes in Reseda, including apartments, condos, houses, and grandparents' homes.
Yes. We will be honest with you about whether video or a home visit fits your child better.
