Speech and Occupational Therapy for Autistic Children

Speech and Occupational Therapy for Autistic Children in Westlake Village

Every autistic child communicates, plays, and experiences the world in their own way. Speech and occupational therapy do not try to change who your child is — they give your child more tools: more ways to communicate, more comfort in their body, and more access to the activities and relationships they care about.

How does speech therapy help autistic children?

A pediatric Speech-Language Pathologist supports the communication goals that matter for your child — whether that is first words, building longer sentences, understanding language, using gestures or AAC, or navigating back-and-forth conversation and play with other kids. Therapy is play-based and follows your child's interests, because motivation is where communication grows.

Occupational therapist supporting an autistic child with sensory regulation

How does occupational therapy help autistic children?

Many autistic children experience sensory input differently — sounds, textures, lights, and movement can be overwhelming or under-noticed. A pediatric Occupational Therapist helps your child regulate and participate: handling transitions, dressing, sleep routines, handwriting and school tasks, and play skills, using sensory integration strategies matched to your child's profile.

Do you provide autism diagnoses?

No. Diagnosis is made by a physician, psychologist, or developmental specialist. Therapy Clubhouse provides speech and occupational therapy — before, during, or after a diagnostic process. Many families start therapy for specific communication or sensory goals while pursuing or waiting for an evaluation, since support does not need to wait for a label.

Autistic child building skills during in-home therapy

Why does in-home therapy work well for autistic kids?

Familiar environments lower the sensory and social load, so your child's real skills show up. Working

in your home

also means strategies are built around your actual routines — your morning transitions, your child's room, your family's life — not a clinic simulation.

Telehealth

sessions with parent coaching are also effective for many families.

Is support available through the Regional Center?

Children under 3 with developmental differences may qualify for no-cost Early Start services through

Tri-Counties Regional Center

, where Therapy Clubhouse is a vendorized provider. Early support during the 0–3 window makes a measurable difference.
