Maybe your toddler tugs your hand toward what they want instead of naming it. Or maybe a Calabasas teacher asked whether your child's stutter has been checked. Pediatric speech therapy in Calabasas can begin in your living room. It is one-on-one time with a licensed speech-language pathologist, who looks at how a child listens, talks, and makes sounds, then uses play to practice what is hard. Parents get simple ideas to try during the week. No diagnosis or referral is needed.

Is home speech therapy available in Calabasas?

Yes. A therapist can come to your Calabasas home, and video works for weeks when a visit is hard to fit in.

Sessions can also take place at a Las Virgenes Unified school, a private school, or a preschool or daycare, with your written consent and the school's approval. Before the first visit, the school and our team agree on a time and a suitable room.

Evaluations can also happen in a private office on Townsgate Road when you ask. On December 1, 2026, families can also start coming to our clinic at 2535 Townsgate Road.

What can pediatric speech therapy in Calabasas work on?

Speech sounds, words and grammar, stuttering, planning speech movements, and conversation skills, for children from birth to 18.

A child who is hard to understand may work on sounds in articulation therapy. A child with few words, or with jumbled sentences, may work on language in language therapy. Stuttering and fluency therapy works on bumpy speech, and therapy for childhood apraxia of speech focuses on planning the movements for words. Social communication therapy works on using language with friends.

Our speech services also include feeding therapy and myofunctional therapy.

How do I ask Las Virgenes Unified to assess my child?

Put it in writing. Las Virgenes Unified's special education plan area, the Ventura County SELPA, asks parents to name their areas of concern in a written request.

Sign and date the letter, then give it to someone on the school staff. The SELPA says the principal or the school psychologist is a good choice.

If your child already has an IEP, the district asks you to bring special education concerns to your child's case manager at the school your child attends.

Which regional center serves Calabasas toddlers?

It depends on your street. Westside Regional Center names Calabasas among the cities it covers, and its ZIP code list includes 91302. North Los Angeles County Regional Center's ZIP list includes 91302 too.

Since both list the same ZIP code, ask either center which one handles your address. Westside's website also points families to the state's Regional Center Lookup.

Westside says its Intake Department is a family's first contact when there is a developmental concern. The North Los Angeles County center, for its part, accepts Early Start referrals from anyone.

Our own Early Start work is with Tri-Counties Regional Center, and Tri-Counties does not cover Calabasas, which is in Los Angeles County. Calabasas toddlers can still have private speech therapy with us.

What if my Calabasas child is 3 or 4?

For a child over 3 who is not yet in TK or kindergarten, the Ventura County SELPA says to contact the school district you live in. For Calabasas, that is Las Virgenes Unified.

The district runs 15 schools, from preschool through high school. Private speech therapy can run alongside preschool, and sessions can happen at the preschool itself if the preschool approves and you consent in writing.

How quickly can a Calabasas child begin speech therapy?

Quickly. A Calabasas family that calls on Monday can be evaluated by Wednesday. As of October 2026, Calabasas families are not put on a waiting list.

Therapy can start before the written report, as early as 5 days after your call. The report and a treatment plan come by the 14th business day following the evaluation, and you may request a rush evaluation.

Calabasas families have Nita Anavim, M.S., CCC-SLP, overseeing their speech therapy. She helped start the practice and still treats children.

What are the payment options for Calabasas families?

Two: insurance through Village, or private pay with a superbill. We go over your coverage with you on the free call.

Village takes TRICARE, and it takes PPO coverage from several major insurers. Each visit also has a Village fee. If you pay privately, our superbill lets you ask your plan about reimbursement. Learn how Village billing works and see the payment options.

What Calabasas parents want to know about speech

Can therapy happen at my child's school in Calabasas?

Yes. Public and private schools, preschools, and daycares all work, given your written consent and the school's approval. We arrange the details with the staff.

Do we need a diagnosis first?

No, not to call us or to book a consultation or an evaluation. If we do not think therapy is needed, we will tell you so.

How long is a speech evaluation?

Plan on about 60 to 90 minutes.

Speech therapy also reaches Hidden Hills, Agoura Hills, and Westlake Village. Calabasas children can also get occupational therapy, or join social skills groups on Townsgate Road. More is on the Calabasas page.
