What can speech and occupational therapy help my Calabasas child with?

Is my child a late talker, or is something more going on?

Yes, the consultation is free, and it is not the same as an evaluation. The 15-minute consultation is genuinely free and comes with no obligation, a conversation with a licensed therapist to answer your questions and suggest a next step. It is not an evaluation. If therapy is a fit, the next step is a comprehensive, play-based evaluation (insurance can be used through Village, or you can pay privately with a superbill for possible reimbursement) that maps your child’s strengths and needs. No diagnosis is required to begin.
Will insurance cover therapy, and do I need a referral?
Coverage varies by plan; insurance can be used through Village, and we check your coverage on the free 15-minute call. Some require a referral or a diagnosis for coverage. You don’t need either to book a free consultation or a private evaluation, and we’re glad to help you check your benefits before you commit to anything.
What if my child is under 3?
Children under 3 who qualify can get Early Start. For context, about 1 in 6 children ages 3 through 17 has one or more developmental disabilities (CDC). Here’s how Early Start works.

Working alongside your Calabasas school team
Las Virgenes Unified School District has public schools in Calabasas. School based support and private therapy are not the same thing: school services are tied to how a child is doing in the educational setting and carry their own eligibility process, while private speech therapy and occupational therapy focus on the goals you and your therapist set for your child. The two can work side by side, and with your written consent we are happy to coordinate with your school team.
Regional Center and Early Start for Calabasas families
Calabasas is in Los Angeles County, and it falls inside the Westside Regional Center catchment area, which also covers Malibu, Topanga Canyon, and much of the Westside. For a child under 3 who qualifies, the regional center that serves your address can coordinate Early Start. If you are not sure which one that is, you are welcome to call us with questions.
