Speech Sound Mastery
Help your child produce sounds clearly and confidently through play-based therapy techniques.
Learn MoreWhen a child knows exactly what they want to say but their mouth will not cooperate, childhood apraxia of speech (CAS) may be the reason. It is a motor speech difference — not a thinking or language problem — and with the right therapy, delivered often enough, children make real progress.
CAS is a motor planning difficulty: the brain has trouble coordinating the precise lip, tongue, and jaw movements that speech requires. A child with CAS may say a word clearly once and not be able to repeat it, groping for sounds while knowing exactly what they mean. Because CAS looks like other speech sound disorders at first, an experienced pediatric Speech-Language Pathologist and a thorough speech and language evaluation matter enormously.
Therapy Clubhouse serves families in Westlake Village and nearby Southern California communities through pediatric speech therapy, occupational therapy, Early Intervention support, in-home therapy, telehealth, and clinic-based care.

Apraxia therapy focuses on movement, not just sounds. Sessions use principles of motor learning — lots of repetition, carefully sequenced syllables and words, and multisensory cues your child can see and feel — woven into play so practice never feels like drilling. Frequent, consistent sessions matter more for CAS than for most speech goals, which is one reason our in-home model works well for these families.
We set movement-based goals you can hear: syllable shapes, then words that matter to your child, then phrases — and we coach you on home practice that fits into daily routines, because short, frequent practice is where apraxia gains stick. Many children with CAS also benefit from AAC supports along the way, which research shows encourages — not replaces — spoken language.
