Canoga Park schools, and where private therapy fits
Canoga Park is Los Angeles Unified. Canoga Park High School sits on Topanga Canyon Boulevard and has served the area since 1914, and Canoga Park Elementary is nearby.
A district assessment asks whether a difficulty affects your child educationally. That is a legal threshold, not a clinical one, and children who fall short of it can still benefit from therapy. The private report is yours, and it makes an IEP conversation more concrete.
Federal law still applies to children in private schools. It requires each public school district to locate, identify, and evaluate children with disabilities whose parents enroll them in private elementary and secondary schools in its area. A private evaluation is a separate path you can choose at any time.

Assignment follows health district rather than city line, so verify your address on the state DDS lookup. Children under three who qualify can get Early Start through the regional center that serves your address. Important: we are a Tri-Counties Regional Center provider, and Tri-Counties covers Ventura, Santa Barbara and San Luis Obispo counties rather than Los Angeles County. What bilingual development actually looks like
Code switching signals two working systems, not confusion. Bilingual adults do it too.
Forty Spanish words and thirty English words is seventy words. Counting only English can make a child's vocabulary look smaller than it is.
This advice still circulates and it is wrong. It costs a child a language and a family a connection, and it does not speed up English.
A real delay shows in both languages at once. That is the marker worth acting on, and an evaluation should look at both languages.
