Therapy Clubhouse provides in-home and telehealth pediatric speech therapy to families in Canoga Park, for children from birth to 18. If you are weighing whether to reach out, ASHA's communication milestones and the CDC's milestone checklists set out what is typical at each age, and the NIDCD explains how speech and language develop. A licensed speech-language pathologist comes to your home, and the first 15-minute consultation is free. As of October 2026, there is no waiting list here for in-home or telehealth therapy.
"We are monitoring him" is not a plan
Monitoring is not a plan. Hearing "We are monitoring him" can leave a family unsure what to do.
A school raises a concern. You ask what happens next. You are told the team will keep an eye on it, revisit after the break, see how things settle. All of that sounds reasonable, and some of it genuinely is. But monitoring has no legal timeline attached to it, produces no report, and creates no obligation. It can continue indefinitely without anything being decided.
An assessment is different. It is a formal process with statutory deadlines, it produces a document, and it forces a decision. Monitoring can quietly substitute for it for years.
Ask one question: has an assessment plan been issued? If the answer is no, you are being monitored, whatever else is being said. If you want the formal process, put the request in writing. A dated email to the principal or school psychologist starts the clock; a conversation in the corridor does not.
Monitoring can be the right call, and we will say so. A child three weeks into a new setting, a four year old with normal disfluency, a late talker with strong comprehension who has just started producing combinations: these are situations where time is genuinely a reasonable intervention. The problem is not that monitoring exists. It is that a family may not be told which of the two situations they are in, or when to stop waiting.

If your household runs in more than one language, it changes two things worth naming.
First, bilingualism does not cause speech or language delay. Mixing languages within a sentence is a normal feature of bilingual development, not evidence of confusion. A family does not need to drop a home language to "help." A bilingual child with a genuine delay is behind in both languages, and that is what an assessment should be examining.
Second, you are entitled to understand your own child's meeting. If a school meeting is not being held in a language you follow comfortably, ask for interpretation before the meeting rather than during it, and ask for the written documents too. Agreeing to a plan you only partly understood can leave you with services that do not match what you thought you had agreed to.
What brings Canoga Park families to us
A toddler well short of the roughly fifty words and early word combinations expected around two
Speech you follow easily that teachers and neighbors do not
A child who has been "monitored" for more than one school term
Effortful or blocked speech, especially with visible tension or avoidance
Strong vocabulary with conversations that go nowhere
Comprehension that looks better than it is, because the routine is predictable
How we work in Canoga Park
We come to your home rather than asking you to come to a clinic, and we work in the room where the difficulty actually shows up. A sound produced perfectly in a quiet office and lost at a busy dinner table has been learned in one place only. The pediatric speech evaluation in Canoga Park can happen at home too.
Telehealth works genuinely well for school-age articulation and fluency work, and for families whose week does not survive a fixed appointment. We will tell you which we think suits your child.
Under three
Canoga Park is served by North Los Angeles County Regional Center, main office Chatsworth. A parent can contact the regional center directly to begin an Early Start referral. A child may qualify with a 25% delay in one or more areas of development, two or more combined risk factors, or an established risk condition. NLACRC says it will complete evaluations and assessments within 45 days of receiving a referral. NLACRC’s Early Start eligibility page also posts Early Start applications in several languages, including Russian, Tagalog, Farsi and Armenian.
The edges of what we do
We do not provide applied behavior analysis, behavioral therapy or counseling, music therapy, or nutrition services, and we do not diagnose autism, ADHD or any other condition. We tell you what we observe, put it in writing, and refer onward when that is the right answer.
Your speech-language pathologist
Canoga Park speech clients work with Nita Anavim, M.S., CCC-SLP, a licensed speech-language pathologist holding the Certificate of Clinical Competence from the American Speech-Language-Hearing Association.

Speech therapy and occupational therapy in one practice
Some children need help learning to talk. Others need help with handwriting, coordination, or coping with noise and textures. Many need both. Therapy Clubhouse is led by Nita Anavim, M.S., CCC-SLP, and Rachel Yashouafar, MA, OTR/L, so a family who needs speech and occupational therapy can arrange both through one practice instead of managing two providers, two intake processes and two schedules.
