Routines that consistently take far longer than they should can point to motor planning or sensory processing differences rather than defiance. Buttons, zips and laces need strength, coordination and sequencing at once, which makes them a clear window into fine motor development.
A reaction that looks dramatic from outside can be a real difference in how a nervous system processes input. It is not fussiness. We work out which input your child seeks and which they avoid, then build strategies that fit your actual home rather than a list nobody could follow.
Constant movement often means a child is seeking the input their body needs to feel settled. Understanding what they are seeking explains behavior that otherwise looks random. Once you know whether your child needs movement, deep pressure or a quieter room to regulate, the day becomes far easier to plan.
We work on the sensory and motor side of eating, including tolerating textures, sitting for a meal and using utensils. To be clear about scope, we do not provide feeding or swallowing therapy. If that is what your child needs we will refer you to somebody who does it properly.

Schools and funding in Ventura
Ventura Unified School District serves the city. A district assessment answers a legal question about educational impact, which is narrower than whether your child would benefit from therapy. Plenty of children do not clear the district threshold and would still make progress with support. If your child attends an independent or parochial school, the district route is generally unavailable, which removes the eligibility question entirely.
Ventura County is served by Tri-Counties Regional Center, which also covers Santa Barbara and San Luis Obispo counties. Children under three go through Early Start via the Regional Center rather than the school district, and eligibility shifts toward the district at the third birthday. Rachel Yashouafar, MA, OTR/L, is an occupational therapist, USC trained, NBCOT certified, licensed in California, with USC sensory integration training. This is a two clinician practice, so your family is not passed between a rotating roster.
