West Hills schools and what a district assessment really tests
West Hills is Los Angeles Unified. The neighborhood elementary and charter campuses include Welby Way Elementary School on Welby Way, a kindergarten through fifth grade school with a GATE program, Justice Street Academy Charter on Justice Street, an LAUSD affiliated charter and School for Advanced Studies serving transitional kindergarten through fifth grade, and Enadia Way Technology Charter on Enadia Way. El Camino Real Charter High School on Valley Circle Boulevard sits right on the West Hills line and takes many families from here.
On the independent side, Chaminade College Preparatory School is here on Chaminade Avenue, and West Valley Christian School is on Sherman Way.
When you ask LAUSD to assess, the district is answering a legal question about educational impact, not a clinical question about whether your child would benefit from therapy. Those come apart often. A private evaluation answers the second question, and the report belongs to you.
Chaminade is co-educational, grades nine through twelve, and has been in West Hills since 1952. Independent school families are usually outside the district assessment system altogether. That removes the eligibility question completely and leaves a simpler one: would an evaluation actually tell you something useful about your child.
Funding for West Hills runs through North Los Angeles County Regional Center, 9200 Oakdale Avenue, Chatsworth, (818) 778-1900. Assignment follows health district rather than city line, so verify your address on the state DDS lookup. Under threes go via Early Start through the Regional Center, not the school district. Important: we are a Tri-Counties Regional Center provider, and Tri-Counties covers Ventura, Santa Barbara and San Luis Obispo counties rather than Los Angeles County. That means families here are generally private pay with us. If your child is already an NLACRC client, ask them whether an out of area or out of network arrangement is possible, and we are happy to speak with your service coordinator. How we decide with you whether to wait
A toddler with few words who keeps adding them sits differently from one whose progress flattened four months ago. We ask about direction, not a snapshot.
Under three, Early Start is time limited. Near kindergarten, unresolved speech sounds start carrying social cost. Identical observation, different urgency.
Avoiding the pencil, going quiet, refusing the climbing frame. When a difficulty starts shaping what a child will attempt, that is usually the moment.

Fees and what we do not do
We charge privately and sit out of network, issuing superbills so you can claim against your plan. We are a Tri-Counties Regional Center provider, which covers Ventura, Santa Barbara and San Luis Obispo counties rather than Los Angeles County, so families here are generally private pay with us. Payment options. Outside our practice: applied behavior analysis, swallowing therapy, psychological care, adult clients. Those get referred to people who do them properly.
