Speech Therapy, Occupational Therapy, or Both? Start With What You Are Noticing
Tap the line that sounds most like your child. This is recognition, not a diagnosis. An evaluation by a licensed therapist is how you actually find out.
Speech clarity is core speech-language therapy. Patterns like these can reflect articulation or phonology needs, and an evaluation is how you find out. See speech therapy or book your free consult.
Late talking is one of the most common reasons families call us. A speech evaluation tells you where things stand and what to do next. See speech therapy or book your free consult.
Fine motor skills like these are core occupational therapy work, and they respond well to coaching in the place your child actually uses them. See occupational therapy or book your free consult.
Patterns like these can reflect sensory processing differences. Our occupational therapist helps children regulate, in the home where the big feelings happen. See occupational therapy or book your free consult.
Some children benefit from speech and OT working together. Ours literally plan together, because both founders run this practice side by side. How the two work together or book your free consult.
That is exactly what the free 15-minute consultation is for. A licensed therapist listens to what you are noticing and gives you an honest read, no obligation. Book the free consultation, or take our free 2-minute milestone check first.
Not ready to talk to anyone yet? Our free 2-minute milestone check walks you through what is typical at your child’s age, using the CDC’s milestones, and tells you whether it is worth a conversation.
Speech Therapy and Occupational Therapy Services We Provide by Telehealth
Both disciplines, from the same practice, with the two therapists talking to each other about your child instead of working in separate silos.
Pediatric Speech-Language Therapy
Late Talkers and Early Language Delay
Building first words, growing vocabulary, and coaching you through the everyday moments where language actually develops.
Articulation and Speech Clarity
Sounds that are hard to produce, including R, S, L, and TH, and speech that strangers struggle to understand.
Stuttering and Fluency
Bumpy, repeated, or blocked speech, plus practical strategies for the moments your child finds hardest.
Receptive Language and Following Directions
Understanding what is said, following multi-step directions, and answering questions.
Social Communication
Back-and-forth conversation, joining play, and repairing a conversation that has gone off track.
AAC and Device Support
Using pictures, signs, or a speech device alongside spoken words, and training the whole family to use it.
Pediatric Occupational Therapy
Handwriting and Fine Motor Skills
Pencil grip, letter formation, drawing, cutting, and the hand strength that sits underneath all of it.
Sensory Processing and Regulation
Children who seek constant movement, avoid certain textures or sounds, or struggle to come back down once they are upset.
Daily Living and Self-Care Skills
Dressing, buttons and zippers, shoes, mealtimes, and the routines that make mornings and bedtimes hard.
Attention, Focus, and Executive Function
Starting a task, staying with it, switching between activities, and handling a change of plan.
Coordination and Motor Planning
Body awareness, balance, using both hands together, and learning new physical skills.
Home Setup and Parent Coaching
Practical changes to the spaces where your child eats, sleeps, plays, and does homework, in your actual home rather than a clinic gym.
Occupational therapy is generally harder to find than speech. If you have been waitlisted for pediatric OT specifically, that is the call we would most like to get. You can see the full picture of what we treat across speech and OT on our services page. If you are further along, read how our pediatric speech and language evaluations and occupational therapy evaluations work.
How to Start Speech or Occupational Therapy Without Waiting
Free 15-Minute Consultation
You tell us what you are noticing. We tell you honestly whether an evaluation makes sense and whether telehealth suits your child.
Evaluation
A licensed therapist works with your child over video and builds a picture of what is going well and what is hard. Findings explained in plain language.
Your Individualized Plan
Goals you helped choose, live video sessions on a set schedule, and specific things to try during the week.
What You Need at Home for Telehealth Therapy
A laptop, tablet, or computer with a camera, a home internet connection, and a quiet-ish spot where your child can sit or move safely. A bigger screen helps. Nothing needs to be bought or installed beyond the link we send you. If you are not sure your setup will work, say so on the consultation and we will check it with you.
An Individualized Plan, Built Around Your Child
No packages, no fixed curriculum, no one-size protocol. Every child gets a plan written for them after an evaluation, and it changes as they change.
Goals you helped choose
After the evaluation we sit down with you and agree on what matters most to your family right now. If the goal that matters is being understood at preschool drop-off, that is the goal we write, not a generic milestone from a textbook.
Built for your actual home
Your therapist sees the kitchen, the bedroom, the toys your child already loves. The plan uses those, so what happens in the session is the same as what happens the other six days of the week.
Reviewed, not set and forgotten
Goals get revisited as your child progresses. If something is not working, we change it and tell you why. You will always know what we are working on and how we know it is moving.
Speech and OT that actually talk to each other
When a child sees both a speech therapist and an occupational therapist at two different practices, the two plans rarely meet. Here, Nita and Rachel are co-founders of the same practice. If your child sees both, the two plans are built together, and a sensory strategy that helps your child stay regulated shows up in the speech session too. Families tell us that coordination is the part that made the difference. Read more about how we measure progress.

Therapy Clubhouse was founded by two clinicians who still treat children themselves. You are not being routed to whoever is free in a national call center.
Nita earned both her Bachelor of Science and Master of Science in Communicative Disorders and Sciences from California State University, Northridge, and holds her Certificate of Clinical Competence through the American Speech-Language-Hearing Association.
Her clinical experience spans early intervention, private practice, and school-based settings, working with speech sound disorders, social communication challenges, autism spectrum disorder, and developmental delays. Her background in early childhood education and Applied Behavior Analysis shapes how she supports younger children.
She is also a mother, which is why she tends to answer the question behind the question parents are asking.
Rachel earned her Master of Arts in Occupational Therapy from the University of Southern California and holds USC’s certification in sensory integration, which shapes the way she evaluates and treats every child she works with.
She is a Registered and Licensed Occupational Therapist, certified by the National Board for Certification in Occupational Therapy and licensed by the California Board of Occupational Therapy. Her experience spans early intervention, in-home therapy, and clinic-based pediatric care.
She works across sensory processing differences, fine and gross motor delays, and motor planning and coordination.
More about both founders and how the practice started is on our about page.
Does Online Speech and Occupational Therapy Actually Work for Children?
A fair question, and one worth answering with a source rather than a reassurance.
“Telepractice is an appropriate model of service delivery for audiologists and speech-language pathologists.” The same guidance adds that telepractice “should be of equal quality to services provided in person.” American Speech-Language-Hearing Association, Telepractice Practice Portal
Practice happens where it counts
Skills get worked on in the room where your child needs them. Your kitchen table, your child’s real toys, your actual morning routine.
You are in the session
You see what the therapist does and why. That makes the six days between sessions worth far more than the one hour.
Nothing is lost to traffic
No drive, no waiting room, no sibling dragged along. For many families that is the difference between consistent therapy and none.
How common is this, really
Figures from the National Institute on Deafness and Other Communication Disorders and the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention. These are national figures, not our results. They are here for one reason. If you are wondering whether what you are noticing is common, it is, and most families who ask do go on to get help.
How to Pay for Telehealth Speech and Occupational Therapy
Private pay • Superbills for possible out-of-network reimbursement • Rates shared at your free consultation, before you commit to anything.
Private Pay and Superbills
Most telehealth families pay privately. We provide a superbill so you can request out-of-network reimbursement from your insurance. We will give you the current rate for evaluations and sessions on your consultation call, before you commit to anything.
Regional Center and Early Start
Therapy Clubhouse is a contracted provider with Tri-Counties Regional Center for Early Start. Tri-Counties covers Ventura, Santa Barbara, and San Luis Obispo counties only. If you live elsewhere in California, services would run through your own regional center, and we can point you to the right one. Full detail is on our insurance and payment options page.
We ask for at least 24 hours notice to cancel or reschedule. Illness cancellations are never penalized when you let us know as soon as you can. A session can often move to a different time rather than be lost.
How Long Is the Wait for Pediatric Speech Therapy or Occupational Therapy?
Therapy Clubhouse does not keep a waitlist for telehealth speech therapy or occupational therapy. We are a California-licensed pediatric practice offering speech-language therapy and occupational therapy by live video to families anywhere in the state. Most families have their free consultation within a day or two and start therapy shortly after.
The reason is simple. Clinic waitlists exist because a clinic has a fixed number of treatment rooms and therapists can only drive so far. Telehealth removes both limits, so the only real constraint is therapist hours, and we schedule those directly.
This is the question almost every parent asks first, so here is a straight answer instead of a brochure one.
What most families run into
Long waits are the norm rather than the exception, and occupational therapy is usually harder to find than speech. Families are often waitlisted at more than one clinic at a time and told to check back.
Meanwhile the child keeps getting older, and the window where early support does the most good keeps narrowing. If you are not sure whether what you are seeing warrants a call, our free developmental milestone check takes about two minutes.
What happens when you contact us
You are not added to a list. You get a free 15-minute consultation, usually within a day or two, with a licensed therapist rather than a scheduler.
If we think an evaluation makes sense, we book it. If we think your child needs something we do not provide, we say so and point you to who does.
Why Pediatric Therapy Waitlists Get So Long
There are more children referred for speech and occupational therapy than there are pediatric therapists to see them, and a clinic can only run as many sessions as it has rooms and hours. In-home therapy adds a second limit, because drive time between families eats into the hours a therapist can actually treat. Both of those constraints are about buildings and traffic, not about your child.
Telehealth removes them. A therapist working by live video can see a family in Redding and a family in San Diego on the same afternoon, with no room to book and no drive between them. That is the whole reason we are able to say we do not keep a telehealth waitlist.
When Telehealth Therapy Is a Strong Fit, and When It Is Not
A Strong Fit If
- Your child can sit with an adult for short stretches, with support
- You can be nearby, at least at the start of each session
- You live far from a pediatric clinic, or the closest one has a long wait
- Your child does better in familiar surroundings
- You want to learn what to do between sessions
- Getting to a clinic every week is the thing that keeps falling apart
We Will Tell You If It Is Not
- Feeding and swallowing concerns usually need hands-on assessment first
- Some sensory and motor work needs equipment and physical support
- A child who cannot yet stay near a screen may need in-person sessions to start
- If a medical or hearing evaluation should come first, we will say so
- If a local in-person provider is the better answer, we will tell you that too
Many families do both, using in-person sessions for some goals and telehealth for the rest. Having no waitlist is only worth something if the format actually suits your child, and we would rather say so on the first call than three sessions in.
Where We Provide Telehealth Therapy in California
Telehealth helps different families differently. In Los Angeles and Orange County it removes the commute. In the Bay Area it gets around long provider waitlists. In Sacramento and the Central Valley it opens access to pediatric specialists. In rural Northern California it may be the only realistic way to see a pediatric occupational therapist at all. In San Diego and the Inland Empire it makes scheduling around school and work far easier. If your child is physically located in California during the session, we can likely help.
California Licensure and Where Your Child Needs to Be
Nita holds California speech-language pathology license 38532 and her ASHA Certificate of Clinical Competence. Rachel is a Registered and Licensed Occupational Therapist, NBCOT certified and licensed by the California Board of Occupational Therapy. That is what lets us see families across the state, from San Diego to the Bay Area to the far north.
Your child needs to be physically located in California during the session. That is how licensure works for telehealth. The professional guidance is that the child’s location counts as the place of service. So the therapist has to be licensed in the state where the child actually is. If your family moves out of state or travels, tell us and we will pause rather than see your child somewhere we are not licensed.
In-Person Care in the Conejo Valley and Ventura County
We also see families in person across the communities we serve, and our Westlake Village clinic at 2535 Townsgate Rd opens on November 1, 2026. If you are nearby, you can mix in-person and telehealth sessions.
Questions Parents Ask About Online Speech and Occupational Therapy in California
Can my child receive speech therapy online in California?
Yes. Therapy Clubhouse provides online pediatric speech therapy to children who are physically located in California during their session, delivered by a California-licensed speech-language pathologist. There is no waitlist for telehealth, and care starts with a free 15-minute consultation.
Can pediatric occupational therapy be done online?
Yes. Pediatric occupational therapy can be delivered by live video for many needs, including fine motor skills, handwriting, sensory regulation, and daily routines. Our California-licensed occupational therapist coaches you and your child in the spaces where those skills are actually used.
How much does online speech therapy cost in California?
Most telehealth families pay privately, and we provide a superbill you can submit to your insurance for possible out-of-network reimbursement. We tell you the current evaluation and session rates on your free consultation call, before you commit to anything.
Does insurance cover online speech therapy in California?
Coverage depends on your plan. Many families use our superbills to request out-of-network reimbursement. Some children qualify through a regional center instead. We are a contracted Early Start provider with Tri-Counties Regional Center, which covers Ventura, Santa Barbara, and San Luis Obispo counties, and we can point families elsewhere in California to their own regional center.
Do you really have no waitlist for speech therapy and OT?
For telehealth, yes. We do not keep a waitlist. Most families have their free consultation within a day or two of reaching out and start therapy shortly after. If a specific therapist or a specific time slot is full, we will tell you that plainly rather than pretend otherwise.
How quickly can my child actually start?
The consultation usually happens within a day or two. After that the pace is set by the evaluation and by what times suit your family. Call or text and we will give you a real date rather than a hopeful one.
Is there a waitlist for occupational therapy specifically?
Not for telehealth OT. Pediatric OT is genuinely harder to find than speech in most of California, which is why so many families sit on OT waitlists for months. It is the service we most want families to know is available.
Who will actually be treating my child?
Nita Anavim, our co-founder and speech-language pathologist, or Rachel Yashouafar, our co-founder and occupational therapist, or a licensed therapist working alongside them. Both founders still treat children directly, which is why they are named personally in our reviews.
Is every child’s plan the same?
No. Goals are written after an evaluation, agreed with you, and reviewed as your child progresses. If your child sees both a speech therapist and an occupational therapist here, the two plans are built together rather than in separate silos.
My child will not sit still. Will this even work?
More often than parents expect. A pediatric telehealth session is not a child sitting quietly at a screen for an hour. Our therapists move the session around your home, use your child’s own toys, and coach you through activities. If your child genuinely cannot engage over video, we will tell you after the evaluation rather than keep billing you.
Do I need to be there for the whole session?
For younger children, usually yes, and that is a feature rather than a chore. Much of the value is you learning what to do during the rest of the week. For older children, many sessions run directly with the therapist and a check-in with you at the end.
What ages do you work with?
From infancy through the school years. The format changes a lot with age. For a toddler, most of the session is coaching you. For an eight-year-old it looks much more like a direct session with the therapist.
Can you diagnose my child over video?
An evaluation by a licensed therapist can identify speech, language, and occupational therapy needs, and that is what we do. Some questions need a doctor, an audiologist, or an in-person assessment. If we think your child needs one of those first, we will say so and help you get there.
Will you work with my child’s school or IEP?
With your written permission, yes. Many families want private therapy goals to line up with an IFSP, IEP, or 504 Plan. Bring a copy to the evaluation if you have one. Our parent FAQ covers more of the questions families ask before starting.
What if we live outside California?
We cannot see your child. Our licenses are California licenses, and a therapist has to be licensed in the state where the child is physically located during the session. If you reach out from another state we will tell you straight away rather than book you in.
Start Speech or Occupational Therapy Without the Wait
A licensed therapist reads every message, not an assistant, and replies within one business day. Your free 15-minute consultation usually happens within a day or two, and you get an honest answer about whether an evaluation makes sense. If we are not the right fit, we will tell you and point you elsewhere.
Telehealth is available to families located anywhere in California. We are not able to see children who are physically outside the state during sessions.
