Evaluation

Up to 3 business days after the free call

Perhaps a speech evaluation was your pediatrician's idea, or a teacher's. Perhaps nobody has raised it, yet you keep wondering about the way your child talks. A pediatric speech evaluation in Agoura Hills can happen right at home. During one, a licensed speech-language pathologist plays and chats with a child, asks the parent about daily life, and gives tests matched to the child's age. The result is a clear picture of how the child understands, speaks, and joins in with others. No diagnosis or referral is needed.

Does my child need to go to an office for the evaluation?

No, we visit homes in Agoura Hills. A video call works too, and so does a visit at your child's school.

Your child's school, public or private, can be the setting once you have given written consent and the school has agreed. Our team talks with the school beforehand and checks the room.

If you would like to come to us in Westlake Village, ask for a private office on Townsgate Road. A new clinic at 2535 Townsgate Road will open its doors on December 1, 2026.

Thinking about a speech evaluation in Agoura Hills?

A licensed therapist will read your note, and our team will reply within one business day. Even a few words about your worry are enough to start.

Good to know: we visit homes in Agoura Hills, and video sessions are open to you too. A school visit starts once you have consented in writing and the school has agreed.

How soon can the evaluation happen, and how long does it take?

Up to 3 business days after your free consultation. Call on a Monday, and Wednesday can be evaluation day.

The visit runs about 60 to 90 minutes. Your child's age, how your child feels that day, and the number of areas we look at all play a part. A rush evaluation can be requested if you need a faster date.

As of October 2026, our calendar for home and video therapy carries no waiting list. Whenever you are ready, book your free 15-minute consultation.

What will a pediatric speech evaluation in Agoura Hills look at?

Your child's understanding of words, spoken language, speech sounds, and play with others can all be part of it. You and the therapist talk first, and then the therapist plays with your child.

To your child, it looks like play. Small moments in that play, like following a short request or taking turns in a game, carry information. Age-matched standardized tests are blended in.

What else is there for young children in Agoura Hills?

Las Virgenes Unified's preschool assessment team takes referrals from parents. A parent can refer their own child if there are concerns about the child's development.

Once you sign an assessment plan, you bring your child to the district's assessment office for a play-based assessment. The office is at Buttercup Preschool. Assessments are held there unless the district says otherwise. Eligibility is a team decision, the district's page says, and parents discuss it with the assessment team at the IEP (Individualized Education Program) meeting. Our evaluation is separate from the district's assessment and does not replace it or decide special education eligibility.

In October 2026, LA County Library listed Smarty Pants Storytime at the Agoura Hills Library. It was for ages 2 to 5, with a parent or caregiver. Listed dates included Thursdays, October 15, 22, and 29 and November 5, 2026. The listing said families had to sign up ahead of time. Also in October 2026, the City of Agoura Hills fall brochure listed Parent & Me: Story Time & Play for ages 1 to 4 in Classroom A, on Wednesdays, November 4 to 25 and December 2 to 23, 2026.

What if my child is not yet 3?

We evaluate children from birth, so a baby or toddler can have a private speech evaluation. Early Start may also help children from birth to 36 months.

Our page on speech therapy in Agoura Hills explains which regional center covers Agoura Hills toddlers. The district's Buttercup page adds that a regional center can refer a child who receives Early Start and is about to turn 3 to the district's assessment team, after getting the parents' consent.

What will we get afterward?

Within 14 business days of the evaluation, your written report arrives, and a therapy plan comes with it if the report recommends therapy.

The report is in plain language. It covers what your child does well, any skills that sit behind what is typical for their age, and what we recommend. That could be therapy, a check-in later on, or simple ideas to use at home.

Therapy need not wait for the report: your soonest first session is 5 days after your call.

How do Agoura Hills families pay for a speech evaluation?

Insurance can be used for this evaluation through Village, and the evaluation is a clinical service. Coverage depends on your plan.

Our page on insurance through Village lists TRICARE, along with PPO plans from several of the major insurers. Village also adds a charge of its own to every visit. Paying privately is another route, with a superbill from us for possible out-of-network reimbursement from your plan, and our payment options page has the details.

What should I know before I book?

Do I need a doctor's referral or a diagnosis to book?

No. You can book without either one, and your own concern is enough to call.

What happens right after I send the form?

A licensed therapist and our team read your request, and our team replies within one business day. Next comes the free 15-minute consultation, which is a call and not an evaluation. The evaluation then happens within 3 business days after that call.

What if therapy turns out not to be needed?

We say so plainly and point out signs worth watching. You still get your written report.

Nearby, we also describe speech evaluations for Thousand Oaks, Woodland Hills, and Newbury Park families. For movement, play, and daily routines, see the pediatric OT evaluation in Agoura Hills, or visit the Agoura Hills page for more of our services.
