A doctor, a teacher, or a grandparent may have raised the idea first. Or you may have noticed something yourself. A pediatric speech evaluation in Camarillo can begin at home. It is guided play with a licensed speech-language pathologist. Through it, the therapist sees how a child understands words, uses them, makes sounds, and connects with others. The family then gets a written report with a clear next step. No diagnosis or referral is needed.

Is the speech evaluation possible at home in Camarillo?

We visit homes in Camarillo, so yes, it can. Video works as well, and so does your child's public or private school.

For a school evaluation, you first put your consent in writing, and the school must agree.

Rather meet in an office? Ask for the Townsgate Road option in Westlake Village: private, secure, and fully confidential. Our clinic at 2535 Townsgate Road opens too, on December 1, 2026.

Meeting places: home in Camarillo, video, or a school (it must agree, and you give written okay). A private Westlake Village office is also there if you ask.

How quickly could we get on the calendar, and how long is the visit?

Count 3 business days from your free call: the evaluation happens by then, and a Monday call can mean a Wednesday visit. Set aside 60 to 90 minutes.

No need to hold off on therapy until the report comes: session one can happen as soon as day 5 after you call. Your written report is due within 14 business days, measured from the day of the evaluation. When the report recommends therapy, it arrives with a therapy plan.

As of October 2026, Camarillo families can start home or telehealth therapy here without a waiting list. Have questions first? Bring them to a free 15-minute call.

Play or test: what will my child do during a pediatric speech evaluation in Camarillo?

Mostly play, and it is meant to feel that way. First the therapist hears your concerns; then the play begins, and so does the careful listening.

Behind the games are small questions, such as whether a child follows a direction or takes turns. Standardized tests, matched to the child's age, are folded into the games. The age of the child and your worries decide which areas get a closer look.

Nita Anavim, M.S., CCC-SLP, a Therapy Clubhouse co-founder, leads each speech evaluation here and explains things in plain language.

Is my baby too young to be evaluated?

No, evaluations start at birth and go up to age 18. Tri-Counties Regional Center may provide Early Start services to a Camarillo child under 3 who qualifies.

Ventura County is one of the three counties Tri-Counties Regional Center serves. Therapy Clubhouse works with it as an Early Start provider.

Can we also ask the school to assess our child's speech?

Yes. The Ventura County SELPA has a page for families on referring a child for special education.

SELPA stands for Special Education Local Plan Area. Ventura County's SELPA is based in Camarillo. Its office is at the Ventura County Office of Education (VCOE), 5100 Adolfo Road.

A private evaluation from us is a separate thing. You are free to share our report with the school or with your pediatrician.

Where else in Camarillo can a young child find support?

Two places to look are the Pleasant Valley School District preschool and the Camarillo Public Library.

The district says its preschool has part-day, three-hour classes in the morning and afternoon. Classes keep 1 staff member for every 8 students, with a cap of 24. Its special education page lists a Pre-School Early Education Program (PEEP) at the Early Education Center of PVSEA (Pleasant Valley School of Engineering and Arts).

In October 2026, the Camarillo Public Library calendar listed Preschool Storytime for ages 3 to 5. Its listed Thursday morning dates included October 15 and 22, November 5, 12 and 19, and December 3, 10, 17 and 31, 2026. It also listed PAWS for Reading, for grades K to 3. Its listed Tuesday afternoon dates included October 20 and 27, November 3, 10, 17 and 24, and December 1, 22 and 29, 2026.

Will our insurance help with the cost of a speech evaluation?

The speech evaluation is a clinical service. Through Village, insurance is an option for it, and your plan decides how much it covers.

Does Village take TRICARE? Yes, and PPO plans from several major insurers too. The plan decides your part, a copay or deductible, and Village also bills a separate fee for every visit.

If you pay on your own, send our superbill to your insurer and ask about out-of-network reimbursement. Wondering how your plan fits in? Talk it through on a free 15-minute call.

Still wondering about something?

What happens if the evaluation says therapy is not needed?

We say so directly, and we point out what to keep watching. We may also suggest checking back in a few months. If therapy is recommended instead, our page on speech therapy in Camarillo shows how sessions run.

Does my child's doctor have to refer us first?

No. You can book without a diagnosis or a referral. The first step is a free 15-minute call.

Do we pay anything for the first 15-minute call?

No. The call is free, and it is where we look at your coverage.

Speech evaluation pages also exist for Newbury Park and Thousand Oaks. Our Westlake Village speech evaluation page describes every area in more detail. For movement, senses, or daily routines, see the OT evaluation in Camarillo. Our Camarillo page brings both services together.
