Pediatric speech evaluation in Ventura, and what comes after the visit

We visit homes in Ventura. You can also choose video, or a school if it agrees and you give written consent. A licensed speech-language pathologist does the evaluation.

Timing

Within 3 business days after the free 15-minute call

A teacher or your child's doctor may have brought up a speech evaluation. Or you may be the one who noticed something. A pediatric speech evaluation in Ventura is mostly play. A licensed speech-language pathologist listens closely to your child. No diagnosis or referral is needed.

When could we start, and when do we get answers?

Your evaluation comes within three business days of the free 15-minute call. The visit itself takes about 60 to 90 minutes.

A call on Monday, for instance, can lead to a visit on Wednesday. For the report, allow up to fourteen business days after the visit. A therapy plan joins it only when therapy is recommended.

Therapy can begin sooner than the report: day five after your call is the earliest for a first session. As of October 2026, in-home or telehealth therapy here has no waiting list. Want to ask something first? Book the free 15-minute consultation.

Noticing something about your child's speech?

Inside one business day, our team answers. Tell us what you have noticed, even in a few lines.

Which settings: your Ventura home, a video call, or a school. A school visit also needs the school to agree, along with your consent in writing. A private Westlake Village office is possible on request.

Does the evaluation have to happen in an office?

No. We visit homes in Ventura, and a video visit works from home too.

A visit at your child's school, public or private, needs your written consent. The school has to agree to it as well.

A private office in Westlake Village is another choice. Just ask. At 2535 Townsgate Road in Westlake Village, our clinic opens its doors on December 1, 2026, with eight treatment rooms.

What is the therapist listening for in a pediatric speech evaluation in Ventura?

For example, the therapist may note how well a child understands words, puts them together, and says speech sounds. Your child's age and your own concerns shape which areas the therapist explores.

You and the therapist talk first. Then the play begins, and tests chosen for your child's age are part of the play. What you report from home counts alongside what the therapist measures.

At Therapy Clubhouse, one of the two founders leads each speech evaluation, Nita Anavim, M.S., CCC-SLP. The speech evaluation page tells more, and speech therapy in Ventura covers what can come next.

What is Ventura Unified's Early Intervention Center?

It is a Ventura Unified School District program. The Early Intervention Center page lists small group classes for ages 3 to 4 at two sites, the ATLAS EIC and Pacific EIC.

The center says its speech/language pathologists assess children in the program and give direct services. That includes therapy, one on one or in small groups, for language and speech sound goals.

Children in these classes also join a circle time language group, with songs, stories, and reading and math readiness. You are welcome to share our written report with your child's school if you wish.

Where else can a Ventura family look for early support?

Ventura Unified's Jumpstart preschool is one place to look. A First 5 Neighborhoods for Learning site is another.

Jumpstart is a Ventura Unified preschool. Its page says 7% of the enrollment funded by the California State Preschool Program is set aside for children with exceptional needs. It also says children with an Individualized Education Program (IEP) or an Individualized Family Service Plan (IFSP) need no financial certification.

First 5 Ventura County lists Sheridan Way Elementary, in Ventura, as a Neighborhoods for Learning site. Neighborhoods for Learning offers Parent and Child Together classes, screenings, referrals, and parent education. Any family who lives in Ventura County with a child from newborn to age 5 can take part. There are no income or insurance eligibility requirements.

What if my child is under 3?

A baby or toddler can have a speech evaluation too. For a child under 3, Early Start is worth knowing about.

Early Start is for children from birth to 36 months of age. It is a statewide system of early intervention services. Regional centers and public school districts both coordinate it. Tri-Counties Regional Center serves Ventura County. We are a Tri-Counties Early Start provider.

On the free call, a therapist can talk through Early Start with you.

What are our options for paying?

A speech evaluation is a clinical service. Village lets families use insurance for it, and each plan decides how much it covers.

PPO plans from several major insurers are on Village's list, and so is TRICARE. Village bills your plan. Then you pay a copay or a deductible, which depends on the plan, plus Village's own fee for each visit.

Private pay is an option too. We provide a superbill, and your insurer may consider it for reimbursement. Before you commit to anything, the free call is where we go over your coverage with you. Ready to see where your plan fits? Start with the free consultation.

Still have a question before you book?

What happens if therapy is not recommended?

We tell you so in plain words and share what to watch for. The written report is still yours to pass along to your pediatrician or your child's school.

How fast do things move once I reach out?

A licensed therapist reads your request, and our team answers it within one business day. If an evaluation makes sense, it happens within three business days of the free call.

Is the free call the same as the evaluation?

No. The call costs nothing and lasts 15 minutes, so you can ask questions and hear what we suggest. The evaluation is a separate, longer visit.

The same speech evaluation is offered in Oxnard, Winnetka, and Reseda. If movement, senses, or daily routines worry you more, see the OT evaluation in Ventura, or start from the Ventura page.

Not sure if your child needs therapy?

Start with a free 15 minute consultation. No commitment, just clarity on whether your child would benefit and what the next step looks like.

“A hearing test is often included in the evaluation because a hearing problem can affect speech and language development.”

NIDCD, “Speech and Language Developmental Milestones”

NIDCD says this about speech and language evaluations in general.

You hear your child's voice every day, so the question you are asking is worth asking out loud.
