A pediatrician or a teacher may have asked whether it is time to look at your child's speech. Or you may be the one who keeps noticing, and cannot let the thought go. A pediatric speech evaluation in West Hills is a play-based assessment from a licensed speech-language pathologist. She pays attention to how your child understands language, uses words, and makes sounds. No diagnosis or referral is needed.

Who runs a pediatric speech evaluation in West Hills, and what is it like?

It begins as a conversation, with you describing what you have noticed and your child's background. Play takes over from there, with age-matched tests worked into the games.

During the play, she may notice whether your child follows directions, makes requests, and takes turns. Which sounds come out clearly is another thing she may listen for. What you have seen at home carries real weight beside her measurements.

Nita Anavim, M.S., CCC-SLP, is both a founder of the practice and the person who leads each speech evaluation. For the whole process, see our speech evaluation page. If therapy is recommended, speech therapy in West Hills shows what sessions look like.

Not sure where to start with your child's speech?

Our team replies in one business day or less. A line or two about what you have noticed goes a long way.

About where we meet: we visit homes in West Hills, and video works too.

How soon can someone see my child, and where?

We visit homes in West Hills, and video works as well. Once the free call shows that an evaluation makes sense, you can have it within 3 business days.

A school visit takes two yeses: the school's, and yours in writing. On request, we can also hold the evaluation in a private office on Townsgate Road, which sits in Westlake Village. The evaluation itself lasts roughly 60 to 90 minutes, and your child's age, the number of areas, and the day all play a part.

A Monday phone call can mean a Wednesday evaluation. For in-home or telehealth therapy here, there is no waiting list as of October 2026. Should a short talk help first, request a free 15-minute consultation.

How long until the report arrives, and what is in it?

Once the evaluation is done, 14 business days is the longest you wait for the report. If therapy is recommended, you also get a therapy plan with that report.

In plain language, the report describes where your child is strong and gives a specific recommendation. If that recommendation is not therapy, the report says so, and the therapist then tells you what to watch for.

Waiting for the report isn't required. At home or by video, a first session can start as soon as day 5 after your call. The report can go to your child's doctor or school if you choose to share it.

Where can a West Hills parent find school pages on special education?

At least two elementary schools have a Special Education Services page.

Nevada Avenue Elementary's page defines special education as specially designed instruction that addresses the unique educational needs of students with disabilities.

Capistrano Avenue Elementary's page says to contact the school office for more information. It also links a Parents Guide to Special Education Services and a second guide with a Spanish title.

What early learning program does the city list at Shadow Ranch?

In October 2026, the city's Fall 2026 brochure for Shadow Ranch Recreation Center in West Hills listed an Early Learning Program for ages 3 to 5.

The brochure gave Monday through Thursday, for a school year that runs to May 27, 2027. Its Early Learning Program information also says children must be fully potty trained.

What is the youngest age you evaluate?

Birth is the starting point: we evaluate children from birth through age 18.

For little ones, the therapist can work through play and familiar routines instead of sitting at a table. A toddler's visit may be broken into shorter stretches, with breaks.

When a child is not yet talking, the therapist also watches gestures, imitation, and shared attention. Those count as much as the number of words.

What will we owe, and where does Village come in?

Insurance can be used for the evaluation through Village, and your plan sets what is covered.

Village is the insurance side: it holds the contracts with plans, verifies your benefits, and does the billing, while Therapy Clubhouse therapists see your child. From several major insurers, Village takes PPO plans, and it takes TRICARE too. Your part is whatever your plan sets, a copay or a deductible, plus a separate fee from Village for each visit.

Another route is private pay. You receive a superbill that you may submit to your insurer for possible reimbursement. Book the free call, and we will go through your coverage together before anything is decided.

Anything holding you back from a first call?

Does anyone have to sign off before we book?

No. You can book directly, with no referral or diagnosis, and the free call is a fine place to begin.

If I send a note tonight, what happens next?

Your note reaches a licensed therapist and our team, and our team writes back inside one business day. After that, you can talk it all through in a free 15-minute call.

What do I pay before I decide anything?

Nothing at all. The free 15-minute call is only a conversation. The evaluation is a separate, longer visit.

Families in Canoga Park, Woodland Hills, or Winnetka can read their own speech evaluation pages. The West Hills page brings our services together.
