Report in hand

Written report within 14 business days after the evaluation

You might be counting your toddler's words against a cousin's, or a pediatrician may have said it is time to have speech looked at. Pediatric speech therapy in Lake Sherwood can begin in your living room. A speech-language pathologist helps children understand language, find words, put them into sentences, and say sounds clearly. With toddlers, most of it happens through play and the small routines of the day, with parents learning the same moves. No diagnosis or referral is needed.

Do you make home visits in Lake Sherwood?

We do. Our therapists drive to homes in Lake Sherwood, which lies inside the area we cover.

Sessions can also run over video. School visits are possible too, including preschool and daycare. You give written consent, the school agrees, and our team talks with the staff and makes sure the space works. Evaluations may also take place, on request, in a private office on Townsgate Road, and our clinic there opens December 1, 2026.

Where does a Lake Sherwood toddler under 3 get help?

Through Early Start, California's program for infants and toddlers. Here, Tri-Counties Regional Center coordinates it, and we are a Tri-Counties provider.

The school district plays a smaller part at this age. Before age 3, the district provides services to children whose sole disability is blindness, deafness, or certain orthopedic conditions.

The district also lists the Ventura County Regional Infant Program. It serves babies and toddlers up to age 3 with special needs, from the Conejo Valley and nearby districts. Its services take place at home, in the community, and in playgroups.

What can pediatric speech therapy in Lake Sherwood work on?

Talking, understanding, and being understood, from birth to 18.

For late talkers, there is language therapy. Older children may need articulation work for speech sounds or help with stuttering. Therapy for childhood apraxia of speech works on planning the movements for speech. We also offer social communication therapy and feeding therapy. Myofunctional therapy works on tongue and lip habits.

What happens when my child turns 3?

In Conejo Valley Unified, special education covers eligible students from age 3 all the way through 22.

For preschoolers who qualify, ages three and four, the district runs Be Me Preschool at two campuses, one in Thousand Oaks and one in Newbury Park. Conejo Valley Unified also belongs to the Ventura County SELPA. That regional group takes in every public school district in the county.

Private speech therapy can continue alongside any of it, and with your consent we can coordinate with the school.

How quickly can a Lake Sherwood family start?

Phone us Monday and the evaluation can happen Wednesday. In October 2026, we have nobody on a waiting list.

Sessions can begin even before the report is finished, as soon as 5 days after the first call. Need the evaluation sooner? Ask for a rush evaluation.

Speech therapy here is directed by Nita Anavim, M.S., CCC-SLP, a co-founder of Therapy Clubhouse who still sees families herself.

How do Lake Sherwood families cover speech therapy?

Coverage depends on the plan you have. During the free call, we look at it together before you commit to anything.

Village, our partner, can bill your insurance if you have TRICARE. It also bills PPO plans through several major insurers, and it charges a per-visit fee of its own. You can also pay us privately and submit our superbill. Early Start through Tri-Counties is open to children under 3 who qualify. Our pages on insurance through Village and payment options have the details.

What Lake Sherwood parents ask

Is my 2 year old too young for speech therapy?

No. We work with children from birth. For toddlers, sessions are built around play and daily routines, and every plan includes coaching so you can keep practicing at home.

Can therapy happen at my child's preschool?

Yes. You consent in writing, the preschool says yes, and we set a time and confirm the room.

Can sessions happen by video instead?

Yes. Video sessions are available, and on the free call we can talk about whether video suits your child's age and goals.

Nearby, speech therapy is also offered in Westlake Village, Thousand Oaks, and Newbury Park. For occupational therapy or social skills groups that serve Lake Sherwood, or the rest of our local information, see the Lake Sherwood page.

By a first birthday, a child usually has one or two words, like "Hi" or "Mama," according to MedlinePlus from the National Library of Medicine.
