Maybe a grandparent said something at a family dinner that you have not been able to forget. Or maybe loud, busy places are hard for your child, and the evenings after them are harder. Speech and occupational therapy in Topanga can come up the canyon to you. Topanga children, birth to 18, meet with a licensed speech or occupational therapist in their own homes and schools. Video helps on days when the drive doesn't fit. No diagnosis or referral is needed. Topanga parents can start with a call.
Do your therapists come to Topanga homes?
Yes. Our therapists make the trip to Topanga homes. Once you sign a consent form, they can also see your child at a school, preschool, or daycare.
Topanga is not a city. The Census counts it as an unincorporated community in Los Angeles County, with its own library and its own ZIP code, 90290.
On either side of the canyon, we also visit Malibu, Pacific Palisades, and Woodland Hills.
Request your free 15-minute consultation
Tell us what you are noticing about your child. A licensed therapist reads every message, not an assistant, and replies within one business day. The consultation is free, lasts about 15 minutes, and carries no obligation. There is no waiting list. If you would rather talk now, call (805) 702-3427.
Who runs Topanga's schools, and which regional center serves it?
Topanga sits inside the Los Angeles Unified School District. Two regional centers list the 90290 ZIP code: North Los Angeles County Regional Center and Westside Regional Center. Ask them which one covers your home.
LAUSD's Child Find page lays it out by age. For school-age children, the principal of the public school they're zoned for is the first contact. Preschoolers use the Early Childhood Special Education office, and babies and toddlers are pointed to a regional center.
California State Parks says some areas of Topanga State Park remain closed because of the Palisades Fire. Check its alerts before you head out with little ones.
LA County Library's Topanga Library is on North Topanga Canyon Boulevard. It describes a Family Place space with baby and toddler storytimes for young children and their parents.
How does speech and occupational therapy in Topanga get started?
With a free call to a licensed therapist, about 15 minutes long. You talk through what you've noticed, and the therapist helps you work out the next step.
When an evaluation makes sense, it takes place within 3 business days, at your Topanga home, at school, or by video. Our speech evaluation page and our OT evaluation page explain what's covered. A written report comes within 14 business days, with a treatment plan if therapy is recommended.
Which services make the trip up to Topanga?
Every one except social skills groups, which stay in Westlake Village. The rest come up the canyon to your home, or meet your child at school.
Topanga families can ask for sensory therapy for a child overwhelmed by noise and crowds. They can also ask for childhood apraxia of speech therapy, or parent coaching that fits family routines. Rachel Yashouafar, MA, OTR/L, our OT co-founder, and Nita Anavim, M.S., CCC-SLP, our speech co-founder, lead the clinical side. The whole list of services is here.
How do Topanga families pay for sessions?
With insurance through our partner Village, or by paying privately. Village works with TRICARE and, for families with a PPO, with plans from several major insurers. There's a Village fee for every visit.
Topanga's ZIP code is listed by Westside Regional Center and by North Los Angeles County Regional Center. Our regional center partner, Tri-Counties, covers neither area. So families here choose Village or private pay, and private payers receive a superbill. The Village insurance page walks through it, and our payment page lists every option.
What else comes up for Topanga families?
Do you really come all the way up the canyon?
Yes. Topanga is inside our home-visit area. If video suits your day better, that works too, and on December 1, 2026, our Westlake Village clinic becomes one more choice.
Could you see my child at school or at a home daycare?
Yes, once you give written consent and the school or daycare agrees. We set the time with them and check that the space suits a session.
Can you help a child who finds noise and crowds hard?
Yes. Noise and crowds are the kind of everyday input an occupational therapist addresses in sensory therapy. You get strategies to use at home.
“Wherever daily activities occur, occupational therapy services can be provided!”
Most children, 3 in 4 or more, are expected to reach each skill on the CDC's milestone checklists by the age it's listed for.
