Pediatric speech evaluation in Moorpark: the visit, the report, and local help
Through play and talk, a licensed speech-language pathologist gets to know how your child communicates. We visit homes in Moorpark, and video chat is another option.
Babies through teens, up to 18
Roughly 60 to 90 minutes
Homes in Moorpark, or video. Also possible: a school (its agreement plus your written consent) or a private office (Westlake Village) if you request one.
A doctor, a teacher, or your own instinct may have raised the question. Maybe your child uses fewer words than you hoped, and you would like a clearer picture. A pediatric speech evaluation in Moorpark is an assessment built on play: a licensed speech-language pathologist watches a child play and talk. She notes how sounds come out, how words get used, and how much is understood. No diagnosis or referral is needed.
How will my child spend the time at a pediatric speech evaluation in Moorpark?
A conversation comes first: you share what you have noticed, along with your child's history. Then the therapist plays with your child and folds tests chosen for your child's age into the games.
She may notice whether your child points, copies sounds, or follows a direction, and which sounds come out clearly. What you see at home counts alongside what she measures that day.
Moorpark families meet Nita Anavim, M.S., CCC-SLP, at every speech evaluation; she helped start Therapy Clubhouse. For a fuller walk-through, read our speech evaluation page; pediatric speech therapy in Moorpark explains what sessions can look like afterward.

Format for the evaluation: a home visit in Moorpark, video, or a private Westlake Village office (ask us).
We'd like to stay home: can the Moorpark speech evaluation work that way, and when would it be?
We visit homes in Moorpark. After the free call, if an evaluation is the next step, a Moorpark family gets one within 3 business days.
Video visits are available as well. A school, public or private, may host it, provided the school says yes and you consent in writing. When a family asks, we can meet in a private Westlake Village office.
Set aside roughly 60 to 90 minutes; the evaluation's length depends on age and the areas being checked. Moorpark children are not put on a waiting list here for home or video therapy (as of October 2026). Your first step can be small: book a free 15-minute call.
Is there a written report afterward, and what goes in it?
A Moorpark family has the written report in hand inside 14 business days of its evaluation. When therapy is recommended, the report adds a therapy plan.
It is written in plain language and covers your child's strengths and a recommendation. Where therapy is not suggested, the report says so directly, and the therapist talks through signs that would be worth a second look.
Home or video therapy does not need the report first; day 5 after you call is the earliest possible start.
How does special education preschool begin in Moorpark Unified?
The district's preschool site says all Special Education Preschool enrollment starts at the MUSD Special Education Department.
Its State Preschool page lists "Having an active IEP" (Individualized Education Program) among the ways a child and family can be eligible. For 2026 to 2027, the enrollment page says a child must turn 3 on or before December 1, 2026 to enter preschool.
The same page adds that children turning 3 on or after December 2, 2026 may enroll on or after their third birthday.
Which development resources do Moorpark Preschools and First 5 point families to?
Moorpark Preschools' Resources and Handouts page links to "Ages and Stages Questionnaire: What is it and Family Resources" and to "Learn The Signs. Act Early."
The page also links a PDF called "Concerned about Development? How to Help Your Child." It also lists "ALL ABOUT YOUNG CHILDREN: Information for Families on Children's Early Development," plus a separate title in Spanish.
Separately, First 5 Ventura County lists a Neighborhoods for Learning location in Moorpark: the Ruben Castro Center, 612 Spring Road, Suite 401, Building B. First 5 says families at its Neighborhoods for Learning sites can complete developmental screenings. They can also take part in Parent and Child Together (PACT) classes and get resources and referrals.
For specialized academic instruction, where do Moorpark Unified students spend their day?
Moorpark Unified's Programs and Services page says some students spend the majority of their time in the regular education classroom. For a short part of the day, they are pulled out to a separate room for instruction by a special education teacher.
Others, the page says, may spend the majority of their day in a separate classroom, where they receive specialized academic instruction. A private speech evaluation with us is separate from these school services.
Is private pay the only option for a Moorpark speech evaluation?
No: the evaluation is clinical care, and insurance for it runs through Village. Coverage varies by plan.
TRICARE is among the plans Village takes, along with PPO plans from several big insurers. Expect your plan's copay or deductible along with a per-visit Village fee.
Private pay is possible too, with a superbill you can send your insurer for possible reimbursement. To go over coverage, reserve a free call.
