Pediatric speech therapy in Port Hueneme, from babbling to book reports
Your child can work with a licensed speech-language pathologist by video or at home in Port Hueneme. School visits are possible too, with your consent and the school's agreement.
Children from birth to 18
Home, video, or school (if you consent and it agrees)
The same person at every session
Maybe your toddler is 18 months old, and the babbling still has not turned into words. Or maybe a doctor or a preschool teacher suggested a speech evaluation. Pediatric speech therapy in Port Hueneme can happen right at home. Speech therapy helps with how a child takes in words, says them, and uses them with others. A speech-language pathologist works on words, sounds, and smooth speech through play, and coaches parents along the way. No diagnosis or referral is needed.
Could sessions take place at our home in Port Hueneme?
Yes, Port Hueneme is in our home-visit area. Prefer video? That works too, and you can move from one to the other whenever you like.
A classroom visit is another option. It needs two things: your signed consent and the school's agreement. Public schools, private schools, preschools, and daycares are all possible. Next, our team agrees on a time with the school and makes sure the room will work.
If your child attends Richard Bard Elementary, a K to 5 public school on East Pleasant Valley Road in Port Hueneme, a visit there would need those same two things.
If you want the evaluation outside your home, ask about a private office we can use on Townsgate Road in Westlake Village. Families who would like to come to us can use our clinic at 2535 Townsgate Road from December 1, 2026. Eight treatment rooms will be ready there.

What does pediatric speech therapy in Port Hueneme cover?
Late or limited words, unclear sounds, stuttering, trouble planning speech, and the back-and-forth of talking with others. Feeding and tongue habits are on the list as well.
Language therapy helps a toddler with few words or an older child whose sentences come out short or jumbled. Articulation therapy is for sounds that leave listeners guessing. Stuttering therapy supports a child who repeats sounds or gets stuck. For childhood apraxia of speech, therapy focuses on planning the movements a word needs. Social communication therapy covers turn-taking, conversation, and play with other kids.
Myofunctional therapy addresses tongue, lip, and jaw habits. Feeding therapy is offered as well, led by speech or OT depending on the evaluation. Every plan includes parent coaching, which carries practice into your days at home.
Which school district serves our Port Hueneme address?
In October 2026, the City of Port Hueneme's Schools page said it depends on which side of Channel Islands Boulevard you live on.
It said residents north of the boulevard were in the Oxnard School District, and residents south of it were in the Hueneme School District. Either district can confirm which one serves your street.
For the 2026 to 2027 school year, the Hueneme district says a child who turned 4 by September 1, 2026, may enroll in transitional kindergarten (TK). It says full-day TK is offered at all nine of its elementary schools. For later school years, ask the district.
Its 2026 to 2027 registration page also lists a Spanish and English dual language immersion program that starts in TK. Bard, Parkview, and Sunkist, which have Port Hueneme addresses, are among the schools that offer it.
Hueneme Elementary School District has a Child Find process. The district says it finds and evaluates children from birth through age 21 who may have a disability and need special education. It says a parent, or anyone concerned about a child, can make a referral.
The district's office is at 205 N. Ventura Road in Port Hueneme. Its special education page links the Parent Rights notice in English and Spanish, and as audio in Mixteco.
A district referral and private speech therapy are separate paths, and they can run at the same time.
Where can Port Hueneme parents get a developmental screening?
Help Me Grow Ventura County invites parents to complete a developmental screening. The screening helps parents learn more about how a child talks, listens, moves, plays, and problem solves.
Help Me Grow also says it can answer everyday questions about a child's development and behavior.
First 5 Ventura County calls its Neighborhoods for Learning family resource centers for children from before birth through age five, and their families. They offer Parent and Child Together (PACT) classes, screenings, referrals, parent education, and resources.
For a baby or toddler, there is also Early Start, the statewide early intervention system for birth to 36 months. Tri-Counties Regional Center serves Ventura County. A qualifying child under 3 may receive Early Start through it, and we are one of its Early Start providers.
Does Port Hueneme's library offer storytime?
In October 2026, the City of Port Hueneme listed children's storytime among the services at the Ray D. Prueter Library. Books and videos in English and Spanish, and a homework center, were on the list too.
Ask the library for the current storytime schedule. If your child hears Spanish, Mixteco, or another language at home, tell us when you call.
How fast can a Port Hueneme child start speech therapy?
The earliest first session is five days after you first call us. An evaluation, when it makes sense, follows the free consultation within three business days.
No one has to wait on the written report before sessions begin. Rush evaluations are possible too; just mention it. Count 14 business days from the evaluation: the written report arrives by then. When it recommends therapy, a therapy plan is included in it. As of October 2026, Port Hueneme children are able to begin home or video speech therapy without any waiting list.
Speech at Therapy Clubhouse is in the care of Nita Anavim, M.S., CCC-SLP. Both of her degrees come from California State University, Northridge.

How long does the speech evaluation take?
Plan for 60 to 90 minutes. Three things shape the length: your child's age, the number of areas checked, and how your child feels that day.
Is a referral from our pediatrician required?
No. You are welcome to contact us yourself. If you plan to use insurance, check whether your plan asks for a referral; we can help with that.
What does a speech session look like?
Like play, with toys and games your child already enjoys. Every activity still has a purpose, and you leave with ideas to use at home.
Speech therapy also reaches children in Oxnard and Ventura. For occupational therapy in Port Hueneme, or both services in one place, see the Port Hueneme page.
