How soon
As of October 2026, Van Nuys families aren't put on any waiting list, and the evaluation can take place 3 business days after the free call, or sooner

Maybe your child understands everything you say but still points to ask for things. Or maybe your child's teacher noticed that copying from the board takes much longer than it should. Speech and occupational therapy in Van Nuys can start where your child is comfortable, at home or at school. Our licensed speech and occupational therapists see Van Nuys children from birth to 18 in both places. Video sessions are also available. No diagnosis or referral is needed. Van Nuys parents can call us first.

Can therapy happen at our Van Nuys home?

Yes. We come to homes all over Van Nuys, and with your written consent, school, preschool, and daycare sessions are possible too.

Van Nuys is part of the City of Los Angeles, in Council District 6. The Van Nuys Neighborhood Council covers the area south of the Metrolink tracks, north of Burbank Boulevard, west of Hazeltine Avenue, and east of the 405. The Van Nuys mailing name reaches past those lines, though.

We also visit nearby Lake Balboa, Valley Glen, and Sherman Oaks.

Which school district and regional center serve Van Nuys?

The Los Angeles Unified School District runs Van Nuys public schools, in its Van Nuys and Valley Glen network. North Los Angeles County Regional Center serves the San Fernando Valley, and its ZIP code list covers 91401 through 91413.

    Elementary schools

Van Nuys Elementary on Sylmar Avenue, Sylvan Park Elementary on Noble Avenue, and Columbus Avenue Elementary are three of the network's schools.

    Who to ask at school

LAUSD's Child Find page says a parent of a child in TK or older should reach out to the principal of the public school of residence. For a preschool-age child who is 2 years 10 months or older, reach out to the Early Childhood Special Education office at LAUSD.

    Regional center forms

North Los Angeles County Regional Center has one application for Early Start, meant for children under 3. It has a different one for children over 3. Either can go in by email.

Is there a children's storytime in Van Nuys?

Yes. The Van Nuys Branch Library on Sylmar Avenue lists a Children's Storytime with stories, songs, and movement for ages 2 to 5.

Van Nuys Recreation Center, on Vanowen, lists a lighted children's play area. Songs, stories, and playground time all give your child natural practice time.

Where do we start with speech and occupational therapy in Van Nuys?

A free phone call comes first, about a quarter of an hour with a licensed therapist. If an evaluation makes sense, it can happen within 3 business days.

Van Nuys evaluations can be held in the living room, at school, or by video. A rush evaluation is available if you need one. Find out how speech evaluations work and how OT evaluations work. Expect a written report in 14 business days or less, with a treatment plan if therapy is recommended.

Can Van Nuys families get these services at home or school?

Yes, every one except social skills groups, which Van Nuys families would join in Westlake Village.

That includes language therapy for children who understand more than they can say. It also includes handwriting and fine motor help for copying from the board, and coaching for parents at home. Rachel Yashouafar, MA, OTR/L, heads our occupational therapy, and speech is headed by Nita Anavim, M.S., CCC-SLP. The two founded Therapy Clubhouse. Our services page has the rest.

For more detail, read about pediatric speech therapy in Van Nuys and pediatric occupational therapy in Van Nuys. Each evaluation is covered on a page of its own: the pediatric speech evaluation in Van Nuys and the pediatric OT evaluation in Van Nuys.

What does therapy cost a Van Nuys family?

It depends on how you pay. Our partner Village bills PPO plans from several major insurers for Van Nuys families, and it bills TRICARE too. Village also adds its own fee for each visit.

Van Nuys is in NLACRC's area. The only regional center we work with is Tri-Counties, which covers Santa Barbara County, Ventura County, and San Luis Obispo County. So regional center funding through us doesn't apply. Private payers receive a superbill. Village's insurance page and our payment options page explain the details.

What else do Van Nuys parents ask?

Do we have to come to Westlake Village?

No. Van Nuys families have sessions at home, at school, or by video. If you ever want to come in, our Westlake Village clinic welcomes families from December 1, 2026.

Is a school visit possible in Van Nuys?

Yes, with written consent from you and the school's agreement. We set it up with the staff, pick a time together, and make sure the room is suitable. Private schools, preschools, and daycares are fine too.

My child understands but doesn't say much. Can speech therapy help?

Language therapy works with children who understand more than they can say, through play and parent coaching. A free call is a good way to talk through what you are seeing.

“Eligibility for early intervention services is based on an evaluation of your child's skills.”

    CDC, Early Intervention

The NIDCD estimates that about 7 percent of children ages 3 to 17 were affected by a voice, speech, or language disorder in a 12-month stretch. That is roughly 1 in 14.

When something about your child's day keeps coming back to you, that's worth a call. Reach out, and we'll think it through with you.
