Evaluation inside 3 business days

Maybe your preschooler gets upset when people can't understand what they say. Or maybe a pediatrician or teacher brought up speech, and now you are wondering what comes next. Pediatric speech therapy in Van Nuys can bring that help into your home. A speech-language pathologist works with a child on three big things: understanding language, using words and sentences, and saying sounds clearly. Stuttering and social talk are part of the job too. Practice hides inside games. No diagnosis or referral is needed.

Is a home visit possible for speech therapy in Van Nuys?

Yes. Van Nuys is in our home-visit area, and a video session is another choice.

A session can also fit into your child's school day. That takes a signed consent from you and a green light from the school. The school may be public or private, and preschools and daycares count too. We then sort out timing with the staff and confirm the room will work.

You can also ask for the evaluation in a private office. It is in Westlake Village, on Townsgate Road. On that same road, at 2535 Townsgate, our clinic opens December 1, 2026, with eight treatment rooms.

Who is pediatric speech therapy in Van Nuys for?

Children from birth to 18 who have a hard time understanding words, using them, or saying sounds clearly. It is also for children who stutter or struggle to talk and play with other kids.

A late talker might start with language therapy, which builds understanding and the use of words. Sounds that others can't follow are the focus of articulation therapy. Stuttering therapy is there when words get stuck or repeat. When talking and playing with other kids is the hard part, social communication therapy can help.

We also work with childhood apraxia of speech and offer myofunctional therapy for mouth habits such as tongue thrust. Feeding therapy belongs here too; at the evaluation, your child's age and your own observations settle whether speech or OT takes the lead.

Can my child read with a volunteer at the Van Nuys library?

Yes. In October 2026, the Los Angeles Public Library listed two STAR reading times at its Van Nuys branch, for babies, toddlers, and kids.

One was set for Tuesdays at 2 p.m., with the listing running until Wednesday, December 30, 2026. The other was listed for Thursdays, 2 to 4 p.m., until December 31, 2026. The listings invited children to share stories and reading with a STAR volunteer. After three STAR events at the branch, a child could take home a free book.

That same month, the branch page listed a Spanish language collection and a service called Book Bundles To Go.

Story time is a natural moment to notice how your child listens, points, and joins in. If something there gives you pause, mention it on the free call.

Do any Van Nuys public schools list speech staff and preschool classes?

Yes. Valerio Street Elementary's special education page lists two staff members in a language and speech role. In October 2026, its TK and preschool page also listed a state preschool class.

The state school directory lists Valerio Street, at 15035 Valerio Street, as a public LAUSD school for kindergarten through grade 5. It also marks the school for multilingual instruction.

In October 2026, the school's TK and preschool page also posted daily class schedules.

School services and private therapy can happen at the same time. If you agree in writing, we can keep in touch with the school.

Is there an LAUSD preschool with a Van Nuys address that supports home languages?

Yes. LAUSD's Sylvan Park Early Education Center, at 15011 Delano Street, serves children ages 2 to 5. Its vision statement says it supports the home language as needed.

Language is one of the school readiness skills the center says it provides. The others it names are social-emotional, math, cognitive, and academic skills.

For babies and toddlers, there is Early Start. North Los Angeles County Regional Center (NLACRC) has an Early Start page. It says regional centers and public school districts coordinate the program in California.

What happens after I call about speech therapy?

First, a licensed therapist spends 15 free minutes on the phone with you. If an evaluation makes sense, it happens no more than 3 business days later.

The written report does not hold up therapy: the first session can be as soon as day 5 after you called. If the evaluation needs to happen sooner, a rush can be arranged. As of October 2026, speech therapy at home or by video comes with no waiting list. Your written report arrives within 14 business days of the evaluation. When therapy is the recommendation, it comes with a therapy plan.

Overseeing our speech therapy is Nita Anavim, M.S., CCC-SLP. Along with a fellow therapist, she started the practice. The American Speech-Language-Hearing Association has awarded her its Certificate of Clinical Competence, and she is a mother herself.

Can we use our insurance for speech therapy in Van Nuys?

Possibly, through our partner Village. Whether it works depends on your plan, and private pay is the other route.

Village can bill TRICARE, and it can bill PPO plans from several major insurers, too. Expect a Village fee on each visit. If you pay privately instead, you get a superbill: a record of each session to submit to your insurer. Learn about insurance through Village, or see our payment options.

Speech or language trouble runs in our family. Should I mention it?

Yes, please. Family history is useful background for the therapist, so share it during the free consultation.

Can the evaluation happen by video?

Yes. Telehealth is one way to do it. Home, school, and an office on request are options too.

Do you see teenagers?

Yes. Teens are welcome right up to age 18.

Speech therapy also comes to families in Lake Balboa, North Hollywood, and Northridge. Van Nuys children can have occupational therapy with us as well, and the Van Nuys page shows everything we offer here.
