Pediatric OT evaluation in Winnetka: what happens and what you get

Mostly through play, a licensed occupational therapist learns how your child moves, uses the hands, and handles the senses. We visit homes in Winnetka, and video works as well.

A teacher or a doctor may have mentioned OT, short for occupational therapy. Or maybe buttons, crayons, or a loud party seem hard for your child right now. A pediatric OT evaluation in Winnetka is a play-based assessment. A licensed occupational therapist leads it. She sees how a child moves, uses the hands, takes in sights and sounds, and handles dressing and meals. No diagnosis or referral is needed.

What shapes a pediatric OT evaluation in Winnetka?

Two things shape its focus: how old your child is and what you have noticed. Hand skills, the senses, balance, self-care, and staying settled in daily routines may all be looked at.

You and the therapist talk first: your child's history, plus whatever you have spotted at home. During play, she may watch how your child holds a marker, reaches across the body, and responds to different textures. Some games may double as a standard test chosen for your child's age, like the DTVP-3 or the BOT-3.

Under age 3, a child keeps you close the whole time; from age 3, children usually spend it one on one with the therapist, in a separate room. Each Winnetka OT evaluation is in the hands of Rachel Yashouafar, MA, OTR/L, who also helped start Therapy Clubhouse. Our OT evaluation page has more, and occupational therapy in Winnetka shows what sessions are like.

Curious about grip, balance, or how your child handles noise?

Venue for the evaluation: a Winnetka home visit, video, or a Westlake Village private office when requested.

Is the OT evaluation offered as a home visit in Winnetka, and how many days after the free call?

Yes: we visit homes in Winnetka. When the free call suggests an evaluation, you will have it within 3 business days.

Video is an option too. A public or private school can be the setting, with the school's yes and your consent in writing. On request, the evaluation can be held in a private Westlake Village office.

The evaluation needs about 60 to 90 minutes; how long depends on age and the skills in question. Winnetka families joining home or video therapy here do not wait on a list, as of October 2026. To begin, request a free 15-minute call.

How many business days until the report, and what does it spell out?

From the evaluation, allow 14 business days at most; the written report comes by then. It includes a therapy plan if therapy is advised.

Plain words are the rule. It names your child's strengths and offers one specific recommendation.

When therapy is not the advice, the report states that plainly, and the therapist talks you through signs worth noticing. Sessions at home or by video can begin before the report is ready, as early as day 5 after your phone call.

Does Winnetka Recreation Center run a summer camp?

Yes: the City of Los Angeles page for Winnetka Recreation Center says it offers summer camp programs for children ages 5 to 12.

The same page says some of its programs include sports fundamental training, painting, sewing, drawing, and STEM. It does not say which ages each one is for.

What do the Winnetka Avenue and Stanley Mosk elementary school pages say about learning by doing?

Winnetka Avenue Elementary's PE page says that each week, students in grades K to 5 take part in the P.L.A.Y. program. They work with coaches on the playground in a variety of physical activities.

Its Learning Garden page says learning in the organic garden links class studies with hands-on experiences in nature. The page adds that it encourages enthusiasm and wonder.

Stanley Mosk Elementary's LEGO Education page says the school has partnered with LEGO Education since 2015 on a hands-on curriculum. For younger students, it lists topics such as coding, social emotional learning, storytelling, and how to build simple machines.

What do Limerick Avenue Elementary's TK and preschool pages describe?

Its Transitional Kindergarten (TK) page says the program centers on literacy and numeracy. The page says it also strongly emphasizes self-regulation and social engagement.

Limerick's State Pre-School page describes a six-hour educational program. It runs Monday through Friday during the 180-day school year.

Could a health plan carry some of the Winnetka OT evaluation's cost?

It may: insurance can work through Village, our billing partner. The evaluation counts as clinical care, and your plan sets what is covered.

Among the plans Village handles are TRICARE and PPOs from several big insurers. Your plan sets the copay or deductible, and Village charges a separate fee per visit.

Rather pay privately? Ask for a superbill, and you can seek possible reimbursement from your insurer. Coverage questions are welcome once you request your free call.

Answers about doctors, messages, and cost

Can a parent start this without a doctor?

Is my message read by a therapist?

Yes. Licensed therapists read every note, and yours gets an answer within one business day.
