Maybe your child repeats the first sound of a word, or gets stuck and gives up talking. Or maybe the daycare mentioned that transitions and big, noisy rooms are hard for your child. Speech and occupational therapy in Winnetka can happen in the places your child already knows. A licensed speech or occupational therapist from our team works with Winnetka children from birth to 18. Sessions happen at home and in class, and video is another choice. No diagnosis or referral is needed. Winnetka parents can call with questions first.

Which district runs Winnetka schools, and what regional center is it in?
Winnetka's public schools are run by Los Angeles Unified, or LAUSD. For developmental services, the area falls to North Los Angeles County Regional Center (NLACRC). Its ZIP code list includes 91306, the ZIP code on Winnetka school addresses.
Sunny Brae Avenue Elementary on Arminta Street and Stanley Mosk Elementary on Lubao Avenue are two of the district's schools with Winnetka addresses.
Parents of a child in TK or up are asked, on LAUSD's Child Find page, to talk first to the principal of the child's own public school of residence. The next step may be a Student Support and Progress Team. For preschoolers, from 2 years 10 months, there's a separate LAUSD office: Early Childhood Special Education.
Under 2 years 10 months, the district's page lists regional centers instead, NLACRC among them. NLACRC, whose main office is on Oakdale Avenue in Chatsworth, runs Early Start, which serves children under 36 months. Anyone, a parent included, can make the referral.
Winnetka Recreation Center, on Winnetka Avenue, has a children's play area and lists preschool and parent-and-child programs.
What's involved in starting speech and occupational therapy in Winnetka?
Two steps. First, a free consultation by phone, about 15 minutes with a licensed therapist. Then, if it helps, an evaluation within 3 business days.
The Winnetka evaluation can be held in the house, in the classroom, or by video; rush evaluations are possible on request. You can read about the speech evaluation and the OT evaluation ahead of time. Within 14 business days, the findings arrive in writing, along with a treatment plan if therapy is recommended.
Which of your services reach Winnetka?
All of them except one, the social skills groups, a service we hold in Westlake Village. Everything else can be done at your Winnetka home or at school.
In Winnetka, that means therapy for stuttering and sensory integration therapy for noisy rooms and transitions. It also means pediatric speech therapy for little ones who are just starting to talk. Behind it all is Nita Anavim, M.S., CCC-SLP, who founded the practice with Rachel Yashouafar, MA, OTR/L. Nita leads speech, and Rachel leads OT. Our service list has more.
There is more on each service in Winnetka: pediatric speech therapy in Winnetka and pediatric occupational therapy in Winnetka. For what happens at a speech evaluation, see pediatric speech evaluation in Winnetka. To read about the OT visit, go to pediatric OT evaluation in Winnetka.
Who covers the cost of therapy for a Winnetka family?
Two ways. Our partner Village bills insurance for Winnetka families on TRICARE, or on PPO plans from several major insurers. Village adds its own fee per visit. Or you can pay privately.
Winnetka is in NLACRC's area, outside the area of Tri-Counties Regional Center, which is the one regional center we serve as a provider. Private payers receive a superbill. Read Village's insurance details and the ways to pay us.
What else do Winnetka parents ask?
Do we have to drive to you?
No, we make the drive. A therapist comes to you in Winnetka, or you meet by video. Families who prefer an office can use our Westlake Village clinic once it opens on December 1, 2026.
Could therapy happen at my child's daycare?
Yes. After you sign a written consent and the daycare is on board, we set up a time through the staff. We also confirm that a suitable room is available. Preschools and public and private schools are handled the same way.
What if my child stutters?
Stuttering is part of what a speech-language pathologist treats here. Parent coaching is part of the plan, so you learn how to respond when a word gets stuck.
“Talk with your child's doctor, share your concerns, and ask about developmental screening.”
A speech sound disorder, such as an articulation or phonological disorder, affects about 8 to 9 percent of young children, per the NIDCD.
You're the one who sees your child every day, so your concerns count. Share them with us, and we'll work through them with you.
