Maybe your preschooler avoids crayons and puzzles. Or maybe sock seams, haircuts, or loud rooms bring on meltdowns. Pediatric occupational therapy in Hidden Hills can begin at home. Occupational therapy helps a child with the skills of play, school, and self-care. A licensed occupational therapist works on using the hands, moving the body, and handling sights, sounds, and touch. The work looks like play, and every game is chosen for a reason. No diagnosis or referral is needed.
Can occupational therapy happen in our Hidden Hills home?
Yes. Home visits reach Hidden Hills, and some OT, like coaching for sensory strategies, can be done over video.
School sessions are possible after you sign a written consent, if the school agrees. That could be at Round Meadow Elementary, a Las Virgenes Unified school, or at another school, preschool, or daycare. Our team works out the time and checks that the room suits OT.
Evaluations can take place at home, at school, or over video, and on request, a private Townsgate Road office works too. Once our clinic opens on December 1, 2026, its soft play area, 1,000 square feet in size, is another option for OT evaluations.
What skills does pediatric occupational therapy in Hidden Hills target?
Hand skills, sensory processing, motor planning and coordination, self-care, and feeding.
With handwriting and fine motor therapy, a child practices grip, letters, cutting, and fasteners. Sensory integration therapy helps a child handle sounds, textures, and movement, whether the child avoids them or seeks them out. Developmental delay therapy is for skills arriving later than expected. An OT may lead feeding therapy if the evaluation shows that fits.
Request your free 15-minute consultation
Tell us what you are noticing about your child. A licensed therapist reads every message, not an assistant, and replies within one business day. The consultation is free, lasts about 15 minutes, and carries no obligation. There is no waiting list. If you would rather talk now, call (805) 702-3427.
Who do I talk to about OT at a Las Virgenes school?
If your child already has an IEP, start with the case manager. Las Virgenes Unified asks families to bring special education concerns to the case manager at the school their child attends.
If your child does not have an IEP yet, the first step is an assessment. The district's special education plan area is the Ventura County SELPA, and it says that for an eligible student, a team works with the parents to choose services and supports.
Private OT can work alongside school OT and can also focus on routines at home, like getting dressed. Once you consent, our therapist and the school team can stay in touch.
What is there for Hidden Hills preschoolers?
Buttercup Preschool, a Las Virgenes Unified program at Yerba Buena Elementary in Agoura Hills, serves 3 and 4 year olds.
Typically developing children learn side by side there with children who have special needs. A child must be 3 to attend, and district residents get priority.
For babies and toddlers under 3, Early Start comes through a regional center. Our Hidden Hills speech therapy page explains the two regional centers to ask, and private OT with us is available from birth to 18.
How soon can OT start for a Hidden Hills child?
Within days. After your free consultation, the OT evaluation can be done within 3 business days. The first session can follow 5 days after you call.
As of October 2026, there is no OT waiting list, and rush evaluations are possible. Expect the report 14 business days or less after the evaluation, and a treatment plan with it if OT is recommended.
The pediatric OT evaluation in Hidden Hills is explained on its own page.
Hidden Hills families get OT under the lead of Rachel Yashouafar, MA, OTR/L. She co-founded the practice and also treats children.
Is OT covered by insurance for Hidden Hills families?
It may be, through Village, depending on your plan. Your coverage is something we look at on the free call.
Village can bill TRICARE for OT. For PPO plans, Village works with several major insurers. A Village fee is charged for each visit. You can also pay privately and send our superbill to your insurer. Tri-Counties Regional Center, the regional center we work with, does not cover Hidden Hills. Read about Village insurance and the other ways to pay.
OT questions from Hidden Hills families
Can OT help with meltdowns over clothes or haircuts?
It can. When clothing, haircuts, or noise feel like too much, sensory integration therapy works on handling that input, and parents get strategies for home.
Can my child be seen at preschool?
Yes, once the preschool agrees and you have consented in writing. Our team arranges it with the preschool staff.
Do I need a referral from our pediatrician?
No. You can contact us yourself; no referral or diagnosis is needed to book the free consultation or an evaluation.
We also offer OT in Westlake Village, Calabasas, and Agoura Hills. Hidden Hills children can see a speech therapist too, and social skills groups meet on Townsgate Road. For the rest, visit the Hidden Hills page.
“Mastering new skills such as how to walk, talk, and use the potty are developmental milestones.”
From birth through age 21, children and young adults with disabilities may qualify for special education programs in public schools, according to the Ventura County SELPA.
