Maybe your two-year-old says just a handful of words, while cousins the same age chatter away. Or maybe a teacher sent home a note about speech, and you are not sure what it means. Pediatric speech therapy in Lake Balboa can begin in your home. Speech therapy is guided practice with a speech-language pathologist. It targets three things: grasping what words mean, stringing them into sentences, and making sounds others can follow. Stuttering and conversation fit here too. It looks like play, and parents leave with ideas for bath time and car rides. No diagnosis or referral is needed.

Where would speech sessions happen for a Lake Balboa child?

We visit homes in Lake Balboa, so sessions can happen on your own couch. School and video work too.

School sessions take two yeses: yours, in writing, and the school's. That holds for public and private schools, preschools, and daycares. Once both are in place, we talk with the staff about timing and take a look at the room.

For the evaluation, you can ask for an office instead: a private one on Townsgate Road, over in Westlake Village. Our own clinic is coming too: eight treatment rooms at 2535 Townsgate Road, opening December 1, 2026.

Is pediatric speech therapy in Lake Balboa only for late talkers?

No. Late talking is one piece. Speech therapy also works on unclear sounds, stuttering, and the social side of talking.

A child who understands little or says little can start with language therapy. When sounds come out hard to follow, articulation therapy is the focus. For repeated or stuck sounds and words, there is stuttering therapy. Social communication therapy works on taking turns and joining a game or a chat.

Childhood apraxia of speech is on our list too. With it, planning the movements for speech is hard, even when a child knows what to say. Habits like mouth breathing are the focus of myofunctional therapy. Feeding therapy can be speech-led or OT-led; your child's age and what you notice at the table decide it, at the evaluation.

What are the first steps toward speech therapy in Lake Balboa?

It starts with a free 15-minute phone call. If an evaluation makes sense after that call, it takes place within 3 business days.

You do not need the report in hand to begin. Sessions can start as early as day 5 after you first called. Need the evaluation sooner? A rush evaluation can be requested. By business day 14 after the evaluation, the written report is yours. If therapy is recommended, a plan with graduation goals comes with it. As of October 2026, Lake Balboa children can start speech therapy at home or by video with no waiting list.

What will the written report include?

The findings from the evaluation and a clear recommendation. If therapy is the recommendation, you also get a treatment plan. Its goals describe what being ready to finish would look like.

A big one. Parent coaching comes with every plan. A therapist models a strategy, you practice it, and together you adjust it until it fits your day.

Can my child keep the same therapist?

Yes. The therapist who starts with your child is there for every session.

We also bring speech therapy to children in Van Nuys, Northridge, and North Hollywood. Lake Balboa kids can add OT with us, and the Lake Balboa page has the bigger picture.
