Your first step

A free call, about 15 minutes long

Maybe your pediatrician asked about your child's words at the last checkup. Or maybe your preschooler has been getting stuck on first sounds, b-b-ball, for more than about six months, or tenses up trying to talk. Pediatric speech therapy in Northridge can start on your living room floor. A child meets with a licensed speech-language pathologist to work on words, sentences, and sounds. That includes stuttering, the stops and repeats that break up the flow of speech. Parents get coached too, so the practice carries into your family's day. No diagnosis or referral is needed.

Northridge home visits: will a speech therapist come to us?

Yes. Northridge is in our home-visit area. If a screen fits your schedule better, video works too, and you can switch back and forth whenever you like.

Sessions can also move to a school, preschool, or daycare. First comes your written consent, then the school's agreement. After that, our team contacts the school and confirms the room will work. Evaluations have one more option: a private, confidential office on Townsgate Road in Westlake Village, on request. The same street will be home to our own clinic, at 2535 Townsgate Road, set to open December 1, 2026, with 8 treatment rooms.

Video sessions too, and we visit homes in Northridge.

From first words to stuttering, what does pediatric speech therapy in Northridge cover?

Understanding words and using them, saying sounds clearly, and speaking with an easy flow. The back-and-forth of conversation counts too.

Late talkers, and children who struggle to follow or use words, can start with language therapy. Articulation therapy targets speech sounds that listeners find hard to make out. Stuttering therapy works on bumpy speech, where sounds or words repeat or stick. We also offer feeding therapy and myofunctional therapy. Social communication therapy and help for childhood apraxia of speech are part of it too.

Does the Northridge library have reading programs for kids?

It does. In October 2026, an event page from the Los Angeles Public Library listed a STAR Reader program at the Northridge branch. The listing put it in the Children's Area on Saturdays, 10 AM to noon.

Kids read with a STAR volunteer there. Come three times, the listing said, and a child takes home a free book. The library also listed a monthly time for kids to read aloud to dogs at the branch. It was set for the second Saturday, 1 to 2 PM, until December 12, 2026. The listing described an all-volunteer program that encourages kids to grow their reading skills and self-confidence by reading aloud to certified therapy dogs.

The branch page also lists Spanish among its language collections. Is Spanish, or another language, part of your child's day? Mention it when you call. We will be straight with you about what we can offer.

Is there a public preschool for little ones in Northridge?

Yes. LAUSD's Region North early childhood list includes Northridge EEC, an early education center on Chase Street for ages 2 to 4.

The list marks these centers as open year round, with no toilet training required. LAUSD's early childhood division describes its centers as affordable or free preschool, running 7:00 AM to 5:30 PM.

A preschool can host speech sessions too. Your signed consent comes first, and the preschool needs to say yes.

Can speech therapy happen at a Northridge elementary school?

It can, with two things in place: your written consent and the school's agreement. We then plan the time and the space with the staff.

Darby Avenue Elementary, an LAUSD public school on Darby Avenue, teaches kindergarten to grade 5. Balboa Gifted/High Ability Magnet Elementary, also LAUSD, is on Labrador Street and serves grades 1 to 5.

School services and private speech therapy don't have to be either-or. If you agree in writing, our team can keep your child's teachers in the loop.

How long is the wait for speech therapy in Northridge?

Home and video speech therapy have no waiting list for Northridge families, as of October 2026. When an evaluation makes sense, three business days is the longest gap between your free consultation and the evaluation.

Want to begin before any report is written? The first session can be as early as day 5 after your call. No more than 14 business days pass between the evaluation and the written report. It gives the findings and a recommendation. A treatment plan is added if therapy is the next step. Ask us if you need a rush evaluation.

The pediatric speech evaluation in Northridge is explained on its own page.

Steering our speech work is Nita Anavim, M.S., CCC-SLP. As a speech-language pathologist and a mother, she understands the mix of excitement and worry a child's development can bring. She is also a co-founder.

Does insurance cover speech therapy for Northridge kids?

It depends on the plan. There are two ways to pay: private pay, or insurance billed through our partner, Village.

Families with TRICARE can go through Village, as can families with PPO coverage through one of several major insurers. Village adds a fee of its own to every visit it bills. Pay privately and you get a superbill, an itemized receipt your insurer may use for out-of-network reimbursement. See how insurance through Village works, or compare all your payment options.

Northridge speech therapy questions, answered

My 3-year-old just started stuttering. Is it too soon to call?

Not at all. Short phases of stuttering are common, and they are a normal part of how speech develops. On the free call, describe what you're hearing. A licensed therapist can help you weigh whether an evaluation makes sense now.

How long does a speech evaluation take?

Set aside 60 to 90 minutes. Age, the number of areas we check, and how your child's day is going all change the length.

Who will come to our home?

A licensed speech-language pathologist who has cleared a Live Scan background check through the DOJ and the FBI. Your child sees that same therapist every session.

Families in Granada Hills, Chatsworth, and Lake Balboa can get speech therapy with us too. For Northridge children, occupational therapy is also available, and our Northridge page explains the rest.

Not sure if your child needs therapy?

Start with a free 15 minute consultation. No commitment, just clarity on whether your child would benefit and what the next step looks like.

“Listen attentively when the child speaks and focus on the content of the message, rather than responding to how it is said or interrupting the child.”

By age 5, most of the risk of stuttering starting has passed, earlier than once thought, a 2013 research review concluded in its PubMed abstract.
