Pediatric occupational therapy in Mar Vista, built around your child's day

Getting dressed, holding a crayon, climbing at the park, coping with noise. An occupational therapist can work on these with your Mar Vista child. Home visits and video sessions are options. School visits work too, with your signed consent and the school's agreement to host them.

Maybe mornings run late because buttons and shoes turn into a fight. Or maybe a kindergarten teacher mentioned pencil grip or sitting still, and the letters OT came up. Pediatric occupational therapy in Mar Vista can start at home. OT, short for occupational therapy, builds the skills a child uses all day. That covers using the hands, balance, dressing, eating, and coping with sound, touch, and movement. It looks like play, and it is. Each game is picked to build a skill. No diagnosis or referral is needed.

In Mar Vista, where would OT sessions happen?

Three places: your living room, a video call, or a classroom, once you sign consent and the school gives its okay. We visit homes in Mar Vista. You are free to swap home visits for video, or back again, at any point.

A school visit starts with two approvals: yours, in writing, and the school's. After that, our team works out the day and hour with the staff and looks over the room. Public or private, preschool or daycare, the steps match.

Each of our therapists has passed Live Scan, a DOJ and FBI background check. Your child works with the same one at every session.

An office visit is possible for the evaluation if you request it. The office is private and sits on Townsgate Road in Westlake Village. Come December 1, 2026, our 2535 Townsgate Road clinic opens with 8 treatment rooms. OT evaluations held there can also use the clinic's soft play area. It measures 1,000 square feet.

Does pediatric occupational therapy in Mar Vista help with more than handwriting?

Yes. Balance, dressing, eating, play, and reactions to noise, touch, and motion are all part of it. So are strategies for big feelings.

Handwriting and fine motor therapy zeroes in on pencil grip, letter shapes, scissors, and buttons. If loud rooms, scratchy tags, or messy hands bring big reactions, sensory integration therapy may help. In October 2026, the Mar Vista Branch Library also listed Sensory Kits under Resources & Services.

When milestones seem slow to come, developmental delay therapy is one option. Either an OT or a speech-language pathologist can lead feeding therapy. The evaluation settles which one, using your child's age and the things you have seen at home.

Each plan comes with parent coaching, so practice can spill into meals, bath time, and getting dressed.

What do Mar Vista Elementary and Grand View say about special education?

Mar Vista Elementary lists an occupational therapist on its special education staff. Grand View Boulevard Elementary says it has a Special Education Program for students with the full spectrum of disabilities, from mild to severe.

Grand View's special education page says its classrooms join the school's Learning Academy and Spanish Immersion students in an extended curriculum. That includes Adapted Physical Education and the Garden School Foundation's Seed to Table program.

School-based OT and private OT can work side by side. With your written consent, we can talk with your child's teacher. A visit at school also needs the school's agreement.

Rachel Yashouafar, MA, OTR/L, co-founded the practice and leads its OT. She has done school-based OT in Los Angeles Unified, for one year, through a contracted company.

What sports and camps does Mar Vista Recreation Center list?

In October 2026, its page described youth sports leagues for children 3 to 15 who meet the age requirements. It also listed seasonal camps.

The page listed camps in winter, spring, and summer, based on the LAUSD school calendar, for school-age children 5 to 12. A Tiny Tot camp for ages 3 to 5 was listed for summer only.

PlayLA Adaptive Sports, a City of Los Angeles Recreation and Parks program, has held a soccer clinic at Mar Vista Recreation Center. A photo caption on its website describes it as a visually impaired and blind soccer clinic.

Running, kicking, and catching in a game all take motor planning, one of the areas OT works on. If joining a team or a camp feels like a stretch for your child, we can talk that through on the first call.

Once we call, how soon could OT begin?

Count five days from your first phone call: that is the earliest date for a first OT session. The evaluation comes first, inside a three-business-day window after the free consultation.

Sessions may begin before the written report is finished. Fourteen business days is the most the report takes, counted from the evaluation. When it recommends OT, it includes a therapy plan. You can also request a rush evaluation. Nobody waits on a list for our home or video OT, as of October 2026.

Will insurance help pay for OT in Mar Vista?

Maybe. Insurance works through our partner Village, and paying privately is the second path. Your coverage is something we can look at together during the free call.

Through Village, TRICARE can be used, and so can PPO coverage from several major insurers. Besides your plan's share, Village charges a fee per visit. If you pay privately, a superbill comes to you, and you can submit it to your insurer for possible reimbursement. Learn about insurance through Village, or look at all payment options.

OT questions from Mar Vista parents

How long does an OT evaluation take?

Roughly 60 to 90 minutes. Where it falls depends on age, how many areas are checked, and how the child's day is going.

Do we need to have anything ready for the evaluation?

For a feeding evaluation, you might be asked to prepare certain foods. For anything else, the therapist brings the materials. It also helps to have any prior reports handy.

What if my child melts down during the evaluation?

We stop and pick a different time. We would never want a child to feel they had done something wrong.

Children in West Los Angeles, Culver City, and Santa Monica can have OT with us too. If your child also needs help with talking, see speech therapy in Mar Vista. The Mar Vista page covers both.
