Pediatric occupational therapy in Northridge for writing, dressing, and play
Pencils, buttons, playground ladders, and noisy rooms can all be part of OT. A licensed occupational therapist can work on them with your Northridge child at home, at school, or through a video visit.

The same OT at every visit
Maybe homework ends in tears because the pencil just won't do what your child wants. Or maybe a teacher says copying from the board takes your child much longer than classmates. Pediatric occupational therapy in Northridge can begin at your kitchen table. An occupational therapist, or OT, helps a child with the hand, body, and sensory skills of daily life. That means writing and dressing, balance, and how a child copes with touch, sound, and motion. Sessions look like play, and you learn ways to keep practicing. No diagnosis or referral is needed.
Northridge families: can OT happen at home or at school?
Both work. We visit homes in Northridge, and schools can host sessions too, with your written permission and the school's yes.
Preschools and daycares count too, along with public and private schools. Before the first visit, our team checks with the staff that the room fits. Video sessions are a third choice. Want the evaluation done in an office? We can arrange a private, confidential one on Townsgate Road in Westlake Village. Then, starting December 1, 2026, our new clinic at 2535 Townsgate Road begins seeing families. It will have 8 treatment rooms and a soft play area that measures 1,000 square feet. OT evaluations can also use that play area.

Either way works: we visit homes in Northridge, and video sessions are available.
What does a child practice in pediatric occupational therapy in Northridge?
Grip and handwriting, coordination, getting dressed, and how a child handles sensory input.
Pencil grip, letter shapes, scissors, and buttons all fall under handwriting and fine motor therapy. Writing depends on hand strength, coordination, and control, which all belong to fine motor work. Sensory integration therapy is for children with big reactions to sound, touch, or movement. Developmental delay therapy targets skills that are slow to appear. Feeding therapy can be led by either an OT or a speech therapist. The evaluation decides which, based on the child's age and what you notice.
Can private OT work with my child's Northridge public school?
Yes. Private OT and a Northridge school's own services can run in tandem. Once you consent in writing, we can stay in touch with the school team.
Several LAUSD public schools have Northridge addresses. Lorne Street Elementary serves kindergarten to grade 5. Northridge Middle and Oliver Wendell Holmes Middle cover grades 6 to 8, and Northridge Academy High covers grades 9 to 12.
LAUSD's Region North special education team says it helps schools and IEP (Individualized Education Program) teams. Its help covers the special education process, the rules, and the supports on offer. Each Community of Schools is supported by a Special Education Administrator and a Program Specialist, a teacher who works outside the classroom.
What hands-on activities can Northridge kids try?
In October 2026, the city's page for Northridge Recreation Center listed gymnastics, dance, and afterschool programs.
That same month, a Los Angeles Public Library event page described a bookmaking series at the Northridge Branch. The monthly series is set for the 2026 to 2027 year and began in July 2026. Each session, participants learn to make a different book. All materials are provided, and children 12 and under must come with an adult.
These are community programs, not therapy. If cutting, gluing, or tumbling is where your child gets frustrated, mention it on the free call.
When could OT start after we call?
The free consultation starts a short clock: if an OT evaluation makes sense, it happens within 3 business days. As of October 2026, no family has to join a waiting list to start home or video OT.
Starting before the written report is possible: therapy can begin as early as the fifth day after your call. A rush evaluation can be requested when timing is tight. Within 14 business days of the evaluation, Northridge parents get the written report. If OT is recommended, the treatment plan comes with it.
The pediatric OT evaluation in Northridge has its own page.
Setting the course for OT at Therapy Clubhouse is Rachel Yashouafar, MA, OTR/L, a co-founder who is a mom as well as a therapist. In past work through a contracted company, she spent a year doing school OT in Los Angeles Unified.
How can a Northridge family pay for OT?
That depends on your plan. Families can use insurance through Village, which partners with us, or pay privately.
TRICARE works through Village, as do PPO plans from several major insurers, and each visit through Village carries a Village fee. Paying privately? You will get a superbill to send your insurer, which may pay some of it back as an out-of-network claim. Our page about Village explains more, and so does our page on payment options.
More about OT for Northridge families
Do you see middle and high school students?
Yes. Our work covers birth to 18, so preteens and teens are welcome.
Can we switch between home visits and video?
Yes. You can move between the two whenever your week calls for it.
My child melts down when tired. What if evaluation day goes badly?
We simply try again another time. A child should never be made to feel they did something wrong because the day was hard.
We offer occupational therapy in Granada Hills, Chatsworth, and Lake Balboa as well. Northridge children can have speech therapy with us too, and the Northridge page covers everything else.
